We bought our Vango Diablo 600 after looking at their website as we were unsure as to the type of design to buy. Having been camping in the wind and our other tent surviving, but draughty, we made this one of our important features. Hasten to add we haven't yet been out in the wide world with our new tent yet, but can't wait for my next weekend off to try!

From all you experiences (as I'm still a fair novice at camping) - what have you all found with this design? Here is what vango state's about this design etc:-

GEODESIC: Through its crossed configuration of poles, a Geodesic design is recognised as the most stable structure available for a lightweight tent. The inner fabric supports this pole configuration which has the ability to keep the inner and flysheet stretched to provide a strong and easily movable structure. In common with many Geodesic designs, the pole structure is on the outside of the inner, which gives the tent an inherent strength. The flysheet is then attached over the inner, making a waterproof, secure and wind shedding shelter.

If the experts say that the Geodesic design is better in strong winds, who am I to disagree. Fortunately I have never been in a situation to test it!

After having a tunnel tent blow away on me in Wales, I would be tempted to agree.

When I bought my last tent I did go to a local camping shop and had a lesson from one of the sales men regarding Geodesic tents.

After spending a wet night in Wales sitting in the car I was more than happy to agree with him but many people have a different point of view.

I have a suncamp stratus 8 which is a vis-a-vis geodesic.

It has been out in very windy conditions and has remained very stable.

I've learnt that I shouldn't park the car adjacent to the long side of it as the turbulence generated in the gap between it and the tent play havoc with the tent ..... it shakes like mad!

I discovered that facing the tent with a corner into the wind helps as it deflects both across and over the surface of it.

I look forward to trying my newly aquired Hartford XL in windy conditions although have been informed that they are very stable ..... have the canopy too which will be interesting!!!

We bought a Eurohike Expedition 330 tent a few years ago which was a geodesic design. Previous to this we had regular domes or tunnel tents. These all bowed in the wind to various degrees. The geodesic tent with its vast amount of guys out never budged at all. The tent was fantastic very stable and we have been in Devon / Cornwall with it in very strong winds and tent very warm and draught free. Have only just got rid of the tent.

That sounds great angelelf - that's very reassuring - I'm glad we've bought one now!

Thanks all!

The last time we were camping the winds picked up a bit and were quite strong at times. we had a fellow camper come over to us and ask what tent we had et.... and commented on how all weekend they had noticed tents been blowing in the wind so to speak, but noticed that our diablo hadn't moved at all, and that would be the next tent thay would be getting.
