This is my first post, we have a Wynnster Galaxy 4 which we love but are looking to swap for a bit bigger, our poles slot into holes in straps and then are tension adjusted, a lot of tents seem to have ring and pin instead. I would like to know which one is best or is it personal choice.
Thanks Helen.
I dont know about your setup as I have only ever had ring and pin. I would think they are much of a muchness really with neither being better than the other apart from maybe the ring and pin is less lightly to wear than a hole in a strap
Hi helenm26 and welcome to UKCS. We have tents both with the ring and pin and with the traditional tents were the bottom the pole fits into a hole on the strap. I must say we prefer the ring and pin system, it makes putting up the tent a lot simplier with the tension straps doing the hard work of moving the poles into a tight position against the tent.
I don't find the ring & pin easy!!! I loosen the straps as much as I can but I still find it really hard... no.... impossible to do! I have to get someone else to do it! Mind you, once it's up it's absolutely fantastic.
I'd like to think it's because i'm such a weak & feeble female but i'm actually a female geoff capes!

I find that ring and pin poll holders do not pick up as much mud as the slot in holders. This is because they are smaller and easier to clean. I remember helping to take down a mates tent and the pole slot was cacked in mud. The ring and pins though do go very rusty after a while though.
Thanks all for the welcome.
Sounds like either is good, just wanted to check I wasnt going to buy something that wasnt as good as we've got now, we love ours, its been through torential rain and gails and stood up totally strong, its just our little one is not so little anymore.
Just wish the manufacturers would put the tension bands higher up the tent wall. Then we would be able to bring the skirt of the tent nearer to the floor where it should be, instead ot leaving a gap ot two to three inches. (Outwell Winfield). Absolutely stupid design fault. Apart from that we love this tent.
