Hi to all you camping experts!

We are thinking of getting the Sun Valley 8 (changing from caravanning to tenting - problems with storage too far away, cost of insurance and storing etc yawn yawn)and were wondering if anyone has experienced any damp or condensation in this tent?

The last time we were tenting years ago, things were a LOT different! So we need advice from experienced up-to-date campers please.We like the comforts of the caravan and would like to get as close to that level of comfort - but in a tent. Is this possible?

When buying a tent to reduce condensation always buy a tent with a fly sheet. Condensation was not a problem in the old canvas style tents as the cotton canvas was so breathable. But with todays ployester and nylon tents condensation is a really bad problem. A two piece tent will have a breathable inner tent and a waterproof or highly water-resistant fly sheet. Condensation will form on the underside of the flysheet but will drip off without wetting the inner tent.

Also if buying a dome tent alway ensure the tent you are buying has a top ventilation even if it has a fly sheet. As this will stop condenstation forming at the top apex of the tent and dripping onto the inner tent.

I would add that in synthetic tents you need to USE the ventilation provided even in cold weather and try to minimise water vapour producing activities inside the tent (boiling kettles, burning gas etc) in order to cut down on consendation, and put damp clothes and towels in the car to dry.
