I have recently purchased a Sun Valley 8 and have been very pleased with the quality of the product however I am concerened having used it twice in recent weeks that there may be a problem with the bathtub groundsheet in the main living / sleeping area and wonder if anyone has any suggestions or has experienced similar probs.

After erecting the tent the groundsheet is being pulled off the ground in two places: along the left hand side (when looking in from the main door) and at the connecting point for the two man sleeping compartment. The tension is such that I am afraid that these points are likely to give over time and tear. I have erected the tent according to the instructions provided with the tent and the video on the website. I have also tried adjusting the  tension on  the groundsheet adjustable straps (these are only located on one side of the tent - is this correct?). Both points are being pulled off the ground by approx 4 inches and are under significant tension - particularly at the connecting point for the 2 man sleeping area. It appears to me that the central poles (red) are too long and are lifting the tent at its apex and the side wall. Please also note that the groundsheet at the right hand wall of the tent is a much better fit  and is not under the same tension. The poles are all positioned centrally within the fabric.

I would very much appreciate any advice anyone has or any experience of similar problems. Many Thanks in advance.

I have had problems with this groungsheet as well. I can never get it to lay completely flat, no matter what I do to adjust it. I thought that it was just me. At least I know I'm not alone.

Its only a bargain if you needed it in the first place!!!

I have a Sun Valley 6 and have had a similar problem - left-hand corner of groundsheet by entrance gets pulled off the ground with the tension of the first pole. Last camping trip I ended up breaking a pole trying to correct it.  Like you I'm a little concerned about effects over time on those particular areas. I've made a point of trying to ensure the poles are perfectly central before erecting but doesn't seem to make any difference.

Are these all this years model of the SV8?

We have last years model and have found no problems at all with lifting of the ground sheet.

We too have had this problem.  We thought it was just us being novice campers and maybe on a pitch that wasn't level.  However, last weekend we were on a very level pitch and still had a lifting groundsheet.

Has anyone tried contacting Outwell about this with any success.  If not maybe we should all get together and approach them en masse about the problem.

Trouble is, this tent is by far the best one for our purposes, it's the most roomy, airy and user friendly tent we have found so far and would not want to switch to another model.

Look forward to hearing from you..........................

Dear all - I have finally managed to get in touch with the store I purchased this from and they are going to contact their sales rep for Outwell. I'll let you know what comes back.

Looking forward to hearing the outcome.  Maybe we should approach Outwell en mass and they'll have to do something about it.  We have paid a lot of money for our SV8s and should expected perfect goods.

We sold our Nebraska and are thinking of buying a SV6 instead. I just thought I'd mention we had this problem with the Nebraska and when we've looked at all of Outwell large SIG tents on display it seems they don't lie quite right. IT's something I find really irritating yet in every other way the tent seems ideal for our requirements.

Hi All,

We've got the 2005 SV8, and don't appear to have any problems with the SIG lifting.

Is it the SIG or bathtub porch groundsheet lifting which you're all referring to ?

Cheers,

Pete.

Have today been in touch with the place at which we bought our SV8 in July to mention the SIG problem.  It seems that they too had a problem with the SIG lifting when they pitched the display model but thought it was the way they had done it!  They asked us to e-mail them with details of the problem - we also mentioned that several others have experienced the same thing.  They are going to get in touch with Outwell on our behalf and will hopefully get back to us in the near future.

Will keep everyone posted with the comments we get................................
