I am interested in this tent as I want one with SIG for the cooler months that I can take the kids away in on my own.

Would this tent be easy/possible to put up on your own? (or with help from 8 yr old).

Other suggestions welcome, want:

- not too big easy to pitch single handed

- SIG

- roomy single bedroom for 3 (dividing curtain an advantage)

- min 3000 HH, sturdy in wind

- outer first pitching

- not too expensive (sub £200, cheaper bettter!)

Have also thought of Evolution 400 (is it completely sold out?), Monty 4 (not sure if possible on my own, too expensive), Sunncamp Vario 400 (Have Vario 6 without sig and think I could manage but too expensive?), Sunncamp Ventura (does it have proper SIG?), Campus Yale (good price, bedrooms separate, inner first pitching)

Am hoping to pick something up in the end of season sales so any advice re this also appreciated.

Any advice/comments gratefully received.

Nick

The fly of the scenic 5.0i doesnt have a sig - its the inner so as far as being able to put up on your own I would say it all depends on how fit you are. I think I might struggle on my own but I am 53 so its all relative.

Thanks both of you for your comments.

Magnolia, I notice you also have a Gelert LV5 - I would be interest to know how that and the Scenic compare, in terms of ease of erection and general.  As I have a Sunncamp Vario which I assume must be more or less the same as the Gelert to erect.

Thanks again,

Nick

The Scenic 5.0i is a much smaller tent footprint wise than the tunnel. We like the sleeping compartment better as we can use it as a dressing room as well. Plenty of room to move around. The living area is more compromised than in a tunnel which is cavernous!!! With the sig in the inner tent we are much cosier in the Scenic than we were in the tunnel and it is easier to heat being a much smaller space.

It has taken us 4 tent to find the arrangement that suits us both. Big sleeping area and room to manuver in the living area without feeling cramped.

The Scenic is a lovely tent but it all depends what you want from it. We want somewhere comfy to sleep and somewhere roomy enough to sit in if the weather is not good. The Scenic fits the bill both ways.

I know you said the montana4 is a bit expensive, but just in case you needed to know, it is possible to put up singlehandedly...I wouldn't say it's a doddle, but I can manage it without too much difficulty, and I'm just a weedy girl!

Lovely tent, with a little porch for mucky kids things, or a little loo for them in the night.

Thanks Popsy for the comment on the Monty, if I see one going cheap I may go for it.  If I take the kids on my own somewhere to put a loo will be a must!

Magnolia, your comparison of the two tents is very helpful.  The size of the Vario suits us when we go as a family in the Summer and we will continue to use it (love the space and light) but I want a smaller tent with SIG to try camping on my own with the kids in the Autumn half term or Easter (I find the Vario a bit drafty), The Scenic 5.0i sounds like it might fit the bill.

Thanks again

The Sunncamp Ventura does have a fully sewn in groundsheet but has two separate two-person inners, not the one large one with divider you are looking for. MT

Merry Terrier,

Thanks for that I couldn't remember what the ground sheet was like although I have seen the Ventura on display.  I remember thinking it seemed a lot of tent for the money. Two separate bedrooms would probably be OK, but one with a divider seems more flexible.  I think the Scenic 5.0i may be cosier having an inner tent throughout but the Ventura would probably be easier to pitch - presumably like my vario but smaller.

Thanks again.
