Hi all

Just come back from a month in France in new Monty 4 and had great time.  Weather was rubbish but tent was fantastic until our last pitch of 5.  Although we had massive storms on all sites on the last site we got water between the SIG and our bottom groundsheet which we put down to keep the SIG clean.  Bad pitching I agree.  The water formed two small puddle because of dips in the ground and was there for a few days until we left the site.  This appeared to cause a problem in the tent.  We had picnic rugs down which became wet in the two spots above the puddles and we ended up putting towels under then and changing then each day even when it was not raining.  At first we thought it might be condensation but the amount of water was such that we wondered whether the water could be coming up through the SIG.  Has anyone else had this issue.  Advice appreciated.

I use a extra groundsheet under my Hartford S.  It only cost me £6 so after one very wet and muddy camp wk I just threw it away.  Saves a lot of messing about especially if it is still very wet or raining when you have to pack everything away.

 Never had nearest to the ground in slightly smaller than the one belonging to the tent then the water will run underneath straight into the ground.  Hope this helps

Sorry - I missed half the sentence out so must not have made any sense .  I ment to say that I have never had any problems with water gathering between the 2 ground sheets and I have been in some pretty horrendous down pours.  Now my first reply should make some sense - Sorry !

It common sense really ,when you have finished pitching ,unpeg the footprint groundsheet and tuck under the monty groundsheet!

Fiona ,we had exactly the same thing with our Aspen this summer ,only hubby went under to get the stone and prompty ripped the tent

After my first time camping many years ago and the usual british weather, I decided to never pitch the groundsheet straight on to the ground. When it comes up after rain, it's always in a bad state what with mud and worms and all sorts clinging to it.

From then on I always take some poly sheeting with me. We have an auto paint shop at work and they get poly sheeting on large rolls. Very thin but when opened up it is about 3 - 4 metres wide by how ever long a piece you have pulled off the roll.

Just peg it out, pitch your tent on top, then unpeg the poly sheet and roll any excess under the flysheet flap.

Tent groundsheet's like new everytime

After each use, just bin the poly sheet. Sheet is also so thin that it takes up no room when packing.
