We have a kyham garden shelter which is completely waterproof. We use this as a cooking tent and keep all our equipment and food in it. The other useful thing is that each of the sides can be opened out and pegged out for extra shade where needed which was very useful to us in france last year. Alternatively you can zip sides up where needed to shelter from rain! It is incredibly easy to put up too. The only downside with this is the material it is made from - it makes a bit of noise when its windy. However, we would not be without it now as we also had the same problem with a gazebo a few years back.
we just bought the outwell day tent , and although we havnt used it yet i should think this will be ideal, it has a hh of 3000 and the sides can be completely closed or opened to mesh , or completely rolled up, am planning to cook in it in october , so lets hope it is as waterproof as we think
Our gazebo is also waterproof but has never been tested by much rain as we only ever use it in France. Ours is made of a matarial rather like those lightweight groundsheets. It is 3m x 2m rather than square and it cost £12 in TJ Hughes. It packs away into a small holdall with handles and doesnt take up much space in the car. We got our last year but they had them again this year. You might even get them at sale price now.

we have also just ordered a new outwell day tent (awaiting delivery), having used a gazebo recently it was okay but we were forever moving the windbreaks when the wind direction change.
We had the same problem with a gazebo and they are not very good in the wind.We have bought the royal dayroom from attwools. We used it last week in heavy rain and lots of wind and it was brill.
We've got the Outwell Oklahoma day tent, used for the first time in anger last week. It served it's purpose excellently. Completely waterproof (3000mm HH), great for cooking in and perfect for evenings away from bugs ! I secured the 4 guy lines with deltas and it didn't even think about moving in the wind !
An absolutely excellent day tent/gazebo which I certainly won't be going camping without ! A little pricey but worth every penny.
