Is it a bit too big for 2 adults and 2 young children? We would intend not to use the third bedroom and have more living space. Next summer we are camping with a 3yr old and 6mth old so need room for baby gear etc. Had thought SV6 would be fine but the porch isn't big enough to store much nor sit in. (We did have a nebraska but sold it as it felt too big and turns out we want the 3+3 bedroom rather than vis-a-vis for security whilst they are soo young.)

Although I don't know that particular tent, I would doubt that it is too big for two adults and two young children.    You've got to bear in mind that you may need room to be able to entertain your young children inside the tent when the weather is bad, or if they are up too early/late to be outside.
Even if you don't use it as a bedroom, I'd out the third pod up, for an out of sight storage area.     Amazing pychological difference if all the clutter is out of sight when not in use.
From what about prefering the 3+3 to viz a viz - it sounds as if the bedrooms are next to each other - this is another advantage.  Not only for security, but a lot easier than crawling across the tent at two in the morning when one of them just want a cuddle.

we have sun valley 8 and think it is ideal for family of 4/5.i think the fact it is so versatile is its selling point . the third bedroom can be used as intended or for storage or as a playroom or removed altogether to create a larger living area.your kids are young so will need more space in time. who knows they may want to take a friend with them or you may even want to add to your tribe .i am new to camping but believe it to be a great tent .it looks good. its quick and easy to erect(2 people required) and mine seemed sturdy and dry despite getting a hammering from all the elements the lake district had to offer.yeomans are selling them at £299 delivered.mine took 3 days to arrive and has had none of the obvious defects reported by others over recent months.

I camped in Dorset last week opposite a family with one (4 month old baby, 4 and 7) and I have to say I was a bit (read: lot) jealous.

Yes its large but its flexible and easy to put up, they had it up a lot quicker than we had our Coleman. Even if you don't us the extra bedroom now it is there for the future and I don't consider being cramped into a small tent when it rains a desirable thing.

We decided to go for a larger tent, after being cramped inside a tent with next to no living area one very wet weekend.   Two kids with no where to play was not good.

We fell in love with the Kos 6 - which looked huge in the show room - but normal on site.

Given it is not that much more to transport (in boot space )over a SV6, I would say go for it.

The alterntaive would be to use a canopy on a SV6 or Montana6, or a day tent; but these combined would still take up more boot space than a SV8.

Have you looked at Outwells' Bear lake?, as it has a bigger conopy.

just bought an SV8 for "299 from Yeomans with free next day delivery, camped on the last bank holiday with a 5 and 3 yr old and it was great...the central living space (we dropped the 3rd bedroom) is great. we are going to get the outwell side canopy to go over the front to extend the utility area to complete the great tent.

We've got a Montana 6 which we use for 2 adults and 3 children(2,5,10). We liked the size of the living area on this and we can use the side porch for storing things in.

The Montana has the 3+3 bedrooms and you can open it up to one bedroom if necessary.

Hi - we've got a SV8 with 2 adults, a 2 and nearly 4 year old. We decided on it as if it was raining, there'd be plenty of living space for the kids to play in. Like others, we don't use the 3rd bedroom.

We use the porch area to store everything and keep wet/dirty stuff, then the living area is kept clean and clear

Good luck with you purchase

Hi

We've got the SV8 for 2 adults and 3 kids (2, 6 and 8). We can't praise it enough....ticks all of our boxes in regards space, easy to erect and flexibility. Even with the 3rd bedroom up it still has acres of space in the living area. It certainly doesn't feel claustrophibic.

Ahem...however after a wet week in Wales....we have now purchased an Outwell Oklahoma to safely cook in when its chucking it down !

Pete.

Thanks for all the replies.

We've decided to bite the bullet and go for the SV8 at Yeomans fab price. Think we will buy the Khyam windbreak with canopy (next season) for the stove as don't want it in the tent but the canopy should give some protection in the rain. It's either that or buy a canopy for the tent but will leave that decision till next season.

Hi, we have the SV8 for 2 adults, and 2 peeps (18months and 3.5).  Definitely not too big for us - gives us all the space we need especially if the weathers bad outside and so quick to pitch (20 mins to get up - without guylines).  We take down the third bedroom and use it for the kids play area.  That way we can keep all the cooking in the porch away from them and not feel cramped.  Phat ninja got a real bargain at £299 (follow that thread) and go for it.

would really recommend the outwell 'side' canopy as this will give you a preotected extension.

Ooo just bought it - will arrive on Friday pm.

Do you put the side canopy over the side or the front?
