Hi all

Been lurking frequently over the last few weeks. Brilliant forum! We're still looking at tents - mainly 'cos I like to look. Men like looking at power tools...my thing is tents!

Anyway, we're planning a trip to Bootle to Outdoor World, but having been a bit disappointed when we went all the way to Brigg to see a display from Yeomans, I wanted to check that OW do have LOTS of larger tents on display. Can anyone who's actually been there tell me? We'd be travelling from West Yorkshire.

TIA
Angela

Hi Angela

Outdoor world in Bootle do have quite a few tents erected I'd say approx 20 they have 2 shops the first sells all camping equipment and has a good selection on display, they have also opened another shop within walking distance 2 blocks away which has tents and awnings only. If you are coming from west Yorks I think the M58 would be best then head for docks when you get to seaforth docks turn left heading for city centre and outdoor world is on your right (dual carriageway) be aware of speed cameras along this route. Not sure if the display is large enough to warrant the distance you would have to travel, but you could always make a full day of it and after visiting outdoor world carry on to Liverpool City Centr (approx 2miles)and visit The Albert Dock, a nice place to spend a few hours.

Hope this helps

Colin

Hi Angela

Are there no camp shops you can visit near home or do you fancy a day out? We were told of a few that way out.

Is Manchester much further because camperlands at Northenden has quite a good display of tents u follow signs for mcr airport and come off at Northenden turn left and it s a little further down the road on the right and is signposted.

I live about 20 minutes drive from Outdoor World and I have to say that if I had travelled the distance you have to then I would be very disappointed. The accessories shop is not very big and has a small hall off it where they put up a few small tents, the backpacker type, then a hundred yards down the road is a small ex warehouse with about 8 or maybe 10 family sized tents and a balcony with some awnings erected. Its fine if you live locally but anything to get excited about and not somewhere I would travel any distance for.

I happened across a Yeomans show when we were deciding to replace our Netto tent. Probably the best thing to look out for, rather than go to a shop. Blacks occasionally have them on the Keighley-Halifax road but haven't seen any advertised lately.

Outdoor World does have a decent display over two shops (about 2 minutes walk away from each other).   In one building they have an accessory shop, with about 10 tents of varying sizes on display - from a large six man tunnel to the tiny bivy type.
Just down the road, there are more tents on display - about 10 large tents, and a few smaller tents.
They do change their displays every few weeks - I call in for a nosey every few weeks so know this.   They also have several caravan awnings displayed.

I don't know how many tents on display you would consider the journey was worth.

Outdoor focus in Horbury have a reasonable indoor display as do Mitchells (indoor and outdoor) in Middlestown.

With them being so close together you can easily do both in one day

have you considered winfields at haslingden. they have a very large display of erected tents (40+) and they are quite competitive. we got our outwell nebraska xl from them this summer (£429). they are located just off the link road between the m66 and m65

Thanks for all the replies. We went to Outdoor World. Didn't bother with the first shop, just went to look at tents. Bit of an eye opener, as we'd initially been considering a Hartford XL, but right next to it was a Montana 6. This seemed to be a larger living space, and the bedrooms were next to one another with just a zip bit in between - useful if the anklebiter or her impending brother or sister wakes up in the night! Also, the bedrooms in the Monty are virtually standing height, whilst the Hartford ones are quite small and seem to sag.

Quite fancied the option of extra room on the Monty 12, though...

I notice another thread on here where Donna got a 12 for £339. Just need her reply as to where, now!
