I would suggest you purchase a mains EHU with built in RDC unit for the tent and then you can have a choice of heating equipment.

Heater? In your tent? Of course you can I wouldn't think about going without it.

We use a small fan heater on a thermastat.  It just keeps the chill out of the tent.

As for everything else you need the same with you clothes wise as you would wherever you were in winter.  Good luck with winter camping.

Those plastic-backed rugs make a diffence to the groundsheet in cold weather. If you use sleeping bags, fleecy liners are nice. Wear a hat in bed as well.

The daylight can be a problem, if we go off season I prefer somewhere with a pub/town nearby where we can go when it gets dark early.

Hope this helps, I'm sure lots of people have more information.

Oh, and welcome to UKCS.

I've also got young children and it's them that stops us from winter camping - us adults can cope with long wet cold days (that's what pubs are invented for!) but it's not so easy with children. Try a weekend towards the end of Sept and see how it goes.

I havn't done much in the way of winter camping but I'm hoping that will change this winter season.

I'm going to buy the EHU lead for tents etc as I'm sure it will be more than useful.Great for charging things up

Otherwise it will be the same kit as normal.

I'm just trying to find sites in my area ( Scotland) that will welcome tents in the winter and be open
