Hi Indyred - think I'd be inclined to take the travel cot if you can fit it in as it would be much cosier for them.
We've just started camping with our 2 year old and it's her first time out of her cot in a sleeping bag and she keeps falling off the mattress. I've been thinking of investing in a tent style travel cot that packs up small like this
our little girl has been ok in sleeping bag this year , she just snuggled down and slept like a log . we were worried at 1st and kept checking that she hadnt slipped down too far !
Defo agree - we started our daughter at 8 months - used travel cot until she could no longer fit in - save yourself some money - if you havnt got one lend one. And agree that whilst cooking etc you know they are safe.
Take your travel cot indyred, Ive got a 1 year old and she sleeps like a dream in hers!! Is it worth being awake most of the night rocking a baby to sleep?? I dont think so!!
------------- The perils of rock and roll decadence
if your tent or bedroom pod hasnt got a sig i wouldnt dream of not using the travel cot
i would be awake all night incase they crawled out under tent
our 18 month old wouldnt sleep in ours at all he ended up sleeping in his buggy luckily it lays totaly flat but they are great for them to play in especially when your setting up or taking down tent

never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you on experience
Another fan of travel cots, I've mentioned on another posting about a friend who's 9 month old was taken out of the cot in the morning and put in bed with them - they promptly fell asleep and awoke to find him having a great time with all the camping gear and painting the rest of the tent with the contents of his older brothers potty. If you don't use one and have an inner bedroom make sure you zip the zips to the top so they can't make their own way out (and doors) - its amazing what they can do when they put their mind to it!
We have been away three times this year with our 1.5yr old, and he has slept in the Twin Arc Travel cot mentioned earlier - they are fantastic, pack down really small and light but very sturdy when erected.
