I have just started caravanning, and take my first trip at the end of the month.

So thought i would check my electrics, and brought myself an extra connection so that i can hook up to the house, the sockets worked perfectly as i boil a kettle, but lights did not.

Yet the lights work fine on the caravan battery, is there a reasion for this. i would hate for my first camp to be a disarster.

The lights will be 12v, not 230v, that's why they work from the battery and not the EHU. Modern vans have a transformer/charger which charges the leisure battery and pwers the 12v system when on EHU but the older vans did not have these and the two systems were totally separate. I used to carry a battery charger with me and when the battery got low I charged it from one of the 240v soxkets in the caravan.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

But what does not make sence is that when i go the caravan was told not to use the spots on the battery, has they drink the battery very quick.

thinking that it would run on mains.

Welcome Little Robert.....Yes I agree, you might be better off moving your post to the caravan section. But regarding your spot lights, only use them for short time on just a battery as they really do drain your battery. Only use them when you have your 12 volt system being charged. As regards your lights not working, then the posts set by other members fully explains why they did not work.
Have fun!
