Hi again this is my second post of the day, if its been raining all night and you need to pack your tent away the following day what sort of things do i need to do. A friend told me that if you pack the tent away whilst it is still damp the tent will go mouldy and fusty, is this true ???

Hi

We take wheelie bin liners away with us. If you have not come across them, they are enormous black plastic bags.  If the tent is wet when packing away, we do not use the bag that comes with the tent, we pack away the wet bits in the liner and thoroughly dry the tent out when we get home.

At the moment the tent is pitched on our back garden, we had a test run with the tent because it was brand new and I have never owned a tent ! It took a bit of a soaking last night ! Am I best leaving it in the sun to dry out ? At the moment I have all the vents open to help remove some condensation. How do you dry the tent out ?

If you are able to leave it up til it dries, that is the best method.  I have to put my tents over the washing line to dry!!

Try to leave the doors open of poss to help with drying the inside.  Once dry, pack away as you would normally.  I am not familiar with this tent so I cannot offer help with the actual packing. My biggest tent at the moment is my Quest.  It has a HH of 6000mm so it is a heavy material.  It is a tunnel and I fold it in half by holding the middle of the roof at each end, lifting it up and flipping it so it lies on the ground doubled with the insides together.  I then fold it on half again length ways and then roll from the back to the front.  That way, I know which way it is pointing when I come to erect next time.

Leave it out to dry as long as you can and like was posted leave all the windows, vents and doors open so it dries inside as well.

When you come to pack it away and are folding the tent get some old towels and wipe the groundsheet(SIG) as you fold it.

Folding it can be a bitch if you follow the outwell video way of folding it width wise because it just balloons as the air can't escape. We now fold ours length wise until it's the width of the bag then we roll it from back to front and there is no ballooning problem. We now get it all in the big blue holdall including poles.

If your actually camping and its wet count your lucky stars you have a garden big enough to dry it in lol.We just fold ours up and dump it in the car and dry it properly when we get home not much point packing it away properly only to get it out again, the big bin liner idea is great i'll have to get some.

We thought our garden would be ample to set it up but the tent suprised us how big it was ! It only just fits with the flower bed in the bedroom haha ! Thanks for the tip in packing the thing away. When we set it up your have to bend the poles over to get them into the metal rings, i'm sure i heard a cracking noise on the poles and i thought oh no what have i done !

The poles can break but with the adjusters slackened right off they are pretty easy to get into the pin.I always slacken every pegging adjuster right off as i take the tent down now. When feeding the poles in pull the sleeve as well when you put the bend in it makes it a bit easier and puts less strain on the pole.Try and centre the sleeve on the pole then put the pin in makes the tent sit much better on the ground at the adjuster side, doing it when the pin is in is hard work as i found out first time i put ours up.

Always take a spare pole which you should have and a roll of electric tape.If one splits when you are putting your tent up find it and just tape it until you can replace the pole at a later date
