My friend would like some advice please and I know that this is the place she will get it.

She is a tall lady who goes walking and requires a tent for her base.  It will not be carried and needs to be big enough for her and her stuff . She will be erecting it alone so this is a big consideration for her.

She has tried a two man Lichfield but it leaked.  The salesman told her that it was probably condensation but she is not convinced so is returning it.  Please could you help with suggestions for a replacement?

Cheers

Pauline

Does she want a low tent or one she can stand up in?

(It probably was condensation, btw....it`s almost inevitable in small tents unless you have a hi-tech breathable material type, at great expense.)

Does not want to stand up, just a little tent.  I told her condensation is a porblem in small tents and I suggested she look at a three man tunnel type, but wanted to see what UKCS "experts" had to say.

I am currently looking at the Khyam range for my son. They appear to be quick to erect and can easily be done by one person.

www.khyam.co.uk and look at the QE range - there are videos on line.

Condensation will be a problem especially if she returns from a hike wet.

What sort of price range is she considering?

I camp alone, I'm 6' and quite a big chap! I use a Royal Phoenix 3 Plus like this one and although it's cheap (I paid less than £30) it's pretty good and I've used it for 14 nights this year often in really bad weather with no leaks at all.

Depends on budget and whether the weight is an issue.

The Khyam quick erect tents have been mentioned. I myself am considering one for longish stays at campsites where I want more room.Likely to be using public transport.

The Khyam Igloo may fit the bill. Currently the 2006 is available at sale prices around a best price of £119 ish.

Budget is obviously the  crucual factor!

Ian, I might be wrong but I think the frame on the Biker has more joints, so it can fold down to a smaller pack size (which might be more useful for you, if you are likely to be using public transport and so carting it around with you?).

You may have a point.Certainly packs smaller. Is designed to fit on the back of a bike.Slightly heavier but good. Dearer though!

Cetainly these Khyam QE tents are very tempting!

Hi thanks for all your help.

Sorry tho guys, Friend already has a husband and as far as I know, is not in the market for a replacement. He bought her the first tent.

I should have asked her budget but forgot. Will be seeing her tomorrow so shall ask!!

Is there anything else I should ask her to assist you with ideas?

I will be showing her what you have said so far tomorrow.

Pauline

Look no further than the amazing bargain Jacqszoo has found for herself (see her thread for full story). See here for a tent worth £170, which is 5 season specs (alloy poles, semi geodesic shape, 5000HH) at and incredibel £30!!

We have this tent and it is great. It goes up in one, has space for our Coleman Comfort double airbed, and it is very well designed in terms of ventilation on the inner etc. It has resisted cliff-top gales and will be depoloyed through the winter when OH goes fossilling on Yorks coast.

It has a strange offset shape, and two small porches rather than one big one. In fact the porch size may be the only downside, but we just leave all the non-essentialsa in the car, so it is not a problem for us.
