Hi Franbw, our friend bought a Monty 6 back in late August this year. He suffered exact same problems. Didn't sit right on porch side, and leaked terribly on the rear roof area, couldnt find leak though plus other leaks along the roof line for the length of the tent. Safe to say another return to Outwell when the shop he bought it from re-opens in the spring....

Like many on here, I wondered what Outwell would do to ensure 2007 is a better year for quality control. I've just read this on Outdoor Megastore's website:
'Outwell Montana 6 Tunnel Tent - 2007 Model
The Montana 6 made its debut in 2005 (and got a hat trick) and was improved in 2006, becoming a true market leader. For 2007 Outwell has the adopted the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it approach' and the only changes for this year are the complementary temperature gauge and the Velcro'd guyline retainers which help the keep the guylines neat and tidy.'
Erm, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'??????
We've just invested in a Bear Lake, and are looking forward to being able to pitch and check it over. Please, please, please let it be okay, since if Outwell seriously think there has been nothing to fix in 2006, it doesn't bode well does it?

we bought a monty 6 from millets show in lincoln used it later that week and found that in two places on the roof it looked as though a thread had been pulled.
it rained while we where in the tent with no sign of a leak, but the next week we took it to the millets show at grimsby, explained the problem and they exchanged the tent no problem.
we love it(and we like millets)
mike
------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping

We have a 2006 Monty6
We have only had one big problem and that was when a pole split down its welded join, close inspection of the pole you could see it was not welded right, took it back to the shop and they switched it with a spare they had in.
The only other gripe we have is when it gets wet, there are some dark patches that appear on the material but we get no wet patches inside. Asked about this in the shop when swapping the pole and they asked me if we had sealed it, said didn't think that we had to with it having such a high hydro head rating, they recond it best as they all do theres no matter what the hh is. They said to use Fabsill gold on it and that should put an end to the dark patches when it gets wet.

Er, I'd query that advice; don't think you should have to waterproof a new synthetic tent and, anyway, isn't fabsil for cotton canvas?

Does only getting half a tent count as a problem? If so, then yeah, I've got a problem!

Yeh I will query it,
The shop is a specialist hiking / camping gear shop so there advice should be good but hey who knows, the price of fabsil gold per litre is a bit steep so could of been thinking of the bank balance.

From a newbie, I think that the thread should be retitled "outwell - problems or not"
We brought an Outwell last year, and thought it was brilliant, no problems at all, but i wouldn't necessarily post a note to let everyone know. How many other people feel the same ? You simply don't know. People are far more likely to tell you of a problem !
In the interest of fairness and to give a balanced view, especially to those reading this thread and that are thinking a purchasing an Outwell, good or bad experiences should be posted under one thread.

sorry going to jump in there. I was the OP and set up two threads this one 'the bad' and another one 'the good'.....over time there have been more posts on the bad thread so it has stayed nearer the top, saying that every so often the good one resurfaces!
Good luck to all you 2007 prospective buyers...and continued happy camping to all the happy owners!

got through 4 indiana 8's! first one had a window tie missing. 2nd the inner was too small, it ripped the flysheet! 3rd had main guy points missing front and back 4th was fine! spoke to the outwell rep who said that it was due to the increase in demand/larger quantities. Yeomans exchanged the indys every time and were always helpful (in the scale of things i still think that when you drop a fair amount of cash on a tent it really isn't too much to ask that it be complete and of reasonable quality) however, went to the camping show a bought a Bear Lake (oops-couldn't help it!) still haven't got it yet but expecting great things!
Liddenham-hope it goes well for you too i understand your concerns!
