Having just retired our tent we are looking for a bigger one to accomodate myself, husband 2 teenage daughters, two 10yr olds a 5 yr old not to mention my toddler and my mum. I have been looking at the sunncamp tourist 20xp, the slightly older sunncamp manta or the wynnster antares 17. Does anyone have any of these tents and which would be a better buy?

I can only relaly comment on the Antares and the Mantra. The 20XP, I have not seen up - bu there are those on here with them, so you shuld get good advice,

The Mantra is a big tent, like I guess all the ones you list are. However, it is pretty basic and with the big open inner, and to me probably draughty. They keep popping up, as they tent to be a cheap sell off, as they were not that popular.

The Antares, is a relatively new tent and IMHO a much better tent in its structure and set up; however, as it is new they will be more expensive.

Have you thought about two tents, not so big - would make it easier on sites with pitching restrictions. Could you put the two teenages in with your mum (might be a wild party!)

Have a look at the vario 900: www.sunnflair.co.uk It has four bedrooms but with a SIG you can also sleep more in the living area and just put the airbeds in one of the bedrooms during the day, which is what we do when we have extra guests. Because the annex provides the additional 2 bedrooms, you also have the option of only using the main tent when there's less of you. It's easy to pitch and has great headroom. Each bedroom will take 2 single airbeds but with the younger ones you could use a double and get three on it.

Might be worth a look?

Other 4+ bedroom tents you may want to consider:

  • Kyham Dakota (has 5 bedrooms)
  • Outwell Hartford XXL
  • Sunncamp Mondial 1600

(...still think you would be beter with two tents, but hope it helps)
