Hi

Previously we had a Montana 4 and this year we upgraded to a 6 we. What a nightmare! First poles snapped and then it leaked! We got a new one as a replacement.

We love the 6 but we found it much harder to put up, we did expect this as it is bigger than the 4.

What I'm after I suppose is your advice on how best to pitch it. We did as video on outwell site showed. My dad has suggested laying it out flat then gathering it all up in a consertina then securing it. Sorry if I'm not making much sense.

Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.

Sarah

Hi Sarah & welcome to the forum

There's quite a few campers on here who own the Montana 6, so I'm sure some of them will be along with advice later today.

Hi starryeyed, welcome to ukcs.

Heres what we do, hope this helps.

Firstly, we lay out a seperate groundsheet, ( to keep the underside of the S.I.G clean and dry ) bought ours at yeomans, and at £19.99 is a perfect fit for the montana 6

Then we roll out the tent, and make sure the tension straps are at thier loosest.

Then we insert all the roof poles, then starting from the back , we insert the first pair of side poles, and insert the ring and pin in the bottom of the poles, this can be tricky if the tension straps are not at thier loosest.

We then peg a few guy ropes out , just to get it standing, then work forwards onto the next set of side poles doing exactly the same each time.

Once the 4 sets of side poles are in and the tent is standing we then give the side poles a bit of a shuffle and make sure we have no creases in the S.I.G, once we are happy with that, we  go around and tighten the tension straps and guy-ropes

This works for us, and hope this is of some help

Do a search on "pitching tips montana" and some variants, there have been a lot of threads on the best way to pitch Montanas.

we do the same as dave+angela- but start from the front. don't know if this makes any difference. can't  see why it would. the only time we've had a problem was when we forgot to loosen the straps! claire

just to add to the above , we also start from the front, but also make sure the fromt door is fully unzipped , if not it creates a vacuum and is much harder to lift up.

Hi

Thanks for all your advice. I think we may be going wrong by not fully unzipping the doors!

Looking forward to warmer weather and trying it out now!!

Thanks again

Sarah

Hi

Re the extra groundsheet - we got ours at B & Q for 7 or 8 quid!!  Just cut it to size and make sure there is none showing  so that the rain does not go underneath.

Are you having weather to put it up just now or is this in preparation for the summer??

Fiona
