Just finished the last of the christmas shopping i hope(not the food or the beer} thats next.but wouldnt it be nice for someone to design a heated campsite complex in a doom so we wouldnt get wet or cold as iam a softy so we could unwind before the christmas rush begins.I discovered camping 3years ago and love it i cant believe how chilled out it makes me feel.Does any of you feel the same?

I wouldn't want to be under any dome, i like the outdoors feeling.(woods , mountains etc) I quite like the rain too, i love the sound on the tent. The cold doesn't really bother me either as i have all the right gear to wear and have good tents, sleeping mats and a goose down sleeping bag etc.. Nice and snug. I do agree with what you said about camping and the feeling of being chilled out, you sure can't beat that!!

You young pups don't know you're born with all the mod cons of central heating electric blankets and such like. Old flatulents such as myself can remember the days of a single coal fire to heat the whole house and wake in the mornings to find frost had made beautiful patterns INSIDE your bedroom window and it required the will power of an eskimo just to put one foot out of bed. Wild camping has no fears for old timers like me.

Aye and it were a five mile walk to school...uphill there and back.

Someone said young pups lol, ive been camping out  over 30 years... I love the outdoors. Wild camping is a specialty for me, i love it in mountains, woods, fields etc. If your wild camping and its cold, light an open fire. (be careful and safe) Its great, then look for some large smooth rocks or pebbles, warm them near or in the fire. They make great warmers in your sleeping bag later on.. Just be careful and don't use them if there that hot that they'll burn you, put a cover over them..

Safeway56, why can I hear the theme tune to the hovis ads in my head when I read your post!  You sounded just like my mum & dad talking there for a minute!!

I agree about the chillout effect of camping.  I am really missing not being able to go at the moment but we just don't have all the right gear.  Fairly new to all this and still collecting.  But I have booked for Easter next year and am planning what I need to buy to add to my present equipment.

Absolutely spot on, chilled out just doesn't come near describing it!! Love it, just can't do it as much as we'd like.

I know was this was written with tongue in cheek, but I can honestly remember only having coal fires for heating, and yes the frost was on the inside of the windows, perhaps thats why i love my heating so much now.

I couldn't believe how chilled out I was once the tent was pitched, some of the days I didn't want to do much but sit around (no chance with a young family though!). And you can't beat listening to all the birds first thing in the morning.
