We went camping near Swindon from the Saturday before Xmas and returned Boxing day, it was a great laugh. The weather was fairly mild and it was great sitting around an open fire relaxing with a beer thinking of all the poor sods battling around the shops. On Christmas day we succesfully cooked an 8lb turkey on the open fire using a box oven made from a cardboard box covered in tin foil and it was the best tasting turkey dinner ever 
I think if you dress well and prepare you can camp at anytime and have a great time.I've added a few photos to my album showing the turkey dinner in progress
