Hi all,

We are going to buy either one or the other of the above named tents within the next week or so.  Both seem to suit our needs in most ways, plenty of room, sewn in ground sheet etc.

Having read the issues with the 2006 outwells Im a little sceptical if im honest but until I realised the vario had a SIG I didnt give it a thought!  I appreciate whats good for one is not good for another but I would like to hear what you guys have to say on the matter, which one shall it be?

TIA

Steve

hi

The montana 6 has a lot stronger steel poles and will stand up to harsher weather, the quality is better with a 5000 hh, roll bag, high vis guy ropes etc. The only down side is the weight.

Sunncamp are releasing a new tent with SIG and steel poles the same as the Monty 6 but complete with a full sun canopy extension. It is called the Global 600 and will be available from Feb.
Sunncamp and Outwell both have hi viz guylines by the way and are of equal quality. The Monty does have a 5000hh compared to 3000hh on Sunncamp but unless you're at the top of a mountain this will make no difference to the performance. The important thing is they are both made from high grade fabric with a high stitch per inch count.

The general overall finish and features is still better on the Outwell in my opinion than the Sunncamp and we as a retailer have decided to run with the Outwell model.

Hope this helps

i think you will find fans of both of these tents. it depends on your needs. We have the vario 600 and decided on this because we can have our 4yr old son sleeping in the bigger bedroom with us. the other bedroom we use as storage.Perhaps look at them both up somewhere

At the moment we have niether in stock, its just an honest opinion on what I have decided to do for 2007 after running both last year and having more problems with The Sunncamp tents than the Outwells.

Thanks for posting that David. There were a lot of Outwell problems reported here last year but we had no idea whether that was representative or not. ie we may have had more Outwell purchasers posting on here than across the general population, so Outwell problems may have been over -represented.  And from your experience that might have been the case. It is very difficult, the forumscan get very carried away in chinese whispers. In my personal trade experience Outwell did have a peoblem with one particular model and I was fortunate enough not to run that model, however Sunncamp also were repotered by many trade friend of mine to have had a particular problem on quite a few of there tents and yet I or none of my customers experienced it......

At the end of the day the best thing to do when buying a tent is to go and see it on display and look at it erected, does it tick all the boxes that you require?? If so great then buy it. If there is a problem then return it to the retailer under warrany and let him do a repair if it is a minor fault or change the relevant part over, but be fair and reasonable on both sides!!!

I have seen pictures of tent facories in the Far East and some Outwell tents are made in Sunncamp biased factories and vice versa as no one maufacturer uses one factory normally for all of his tent models. Why put all the eggs in one basket???

Listen to the shop owner, they don't want to sell you a bucket load of problems, they get enpough grief as it is why add any more!!!

Hope this helps everyone...

David

hi

i bought the vario 6 last year and we are very pleased with it. The only problem we had is the door zip leaked a little in a torrential storm last august. sunncamp havr addressed this problem in this years model. I will though say the after care service from sunncamp was excellent.

Have looked long and hard at both these tents and although Outwell had some quality issues last year have now pre ordered a Montana 6. As David rightly pointed out, Sunncamp did have issues last year that did not become to widely known. This was probably due to the popularity of the Outwell range as can be seen in these forums.
