Hi All

Pretty new to the camping game last year when we went we really struggled with lighting we had torches and cheap lanterns but we still seemed to struggle for light.

Just wondered if anybody could recommend any good lighting, we have also now bought electric hook up, can we plug in low watt lamps or is this not advisable?

we bought a clip on light and use low energy bulbs as they dont get to hot, i clip it up in the tent and works fine. cant remeber where i got it bust possibly WILKINSONS or similar.

   When I use the E.H.U. I use a garage/loft light, which is a 12" (30cm.) fluorescent tube (with clear plastic covering) with a hook at one end, it has about 4 metres of flex. If I remember rightly, it cost less then a tenner from 'Homebase'. They're bright enough to read by, but the light is a bit 'cold'...

    There are lots of lights you can use with your E.H.U. and I'm sure someone will come up with the perfect one for you...

There is lots on the Equipment forum which will help you.

Personally I use a couple of rechargable laterns for the kids and a duel-fuel Coleman Northstar lartern for the main light. Work well, especially the Northstar.

We use a couple of low wattage bulbs housed in cheap outdoor bulkhead fittings to keep them waterproof, we run these on the hook-up when we can or a leasure battery & inverter if there is no on site electric. Being low wattage they stay cool & don't take much power from the battery

I have a 12V lesuire battery with a strip light. works a treat. just have to remember to charge the battery before I go!!!

I got a rechargeable one from argos 14.99 with two flourescent tubes and a stand on the back to stand it up and a spotlight function very handy and lights up my frame tent  a treat.

We use a cheap plastic bulkhead light from Wilkos for £5.75. It houses an 11w energy saving bulb and is lightweight and waterproof. Screw a self tapping hook into the back and wire it to a plug with about 3m of cable. It hangs nicely in the tent. Dont worry about tripping your hook up with lights, as they dont draw much power at all.
