No matter what you do when washing a sleeping bag, or how it feels, you will lose some of it's bulk and it's insulating properties. Most manufacturers washing instructions will advise you of this and suggest no more than about 3 washings. Use liners if you feel that is a problem, but personally, at between £14-£20 for an adequate 2-3 season sleeping bag (especially if you look for the sale bargains) you might as well buy a new one.

I have just washed the kids sleeping bags and that worked well only problem is they have soap powder marks over them and I don't fancy washing them again. I think I will have to attempt to sponge them down.

That is why we always use liquid detergent, and reduce the quantity. Just make sure there is no soap residue on the inside, or your kids could develop a nice reaction!

Seriously, I'd run them through the machine again, minus powder or detergent of any kind.

Ok thank you for the tip, I just couldn't face drying them again, as I had done all the washing from our new year trip with all the mud and son was sick so puky washing too then I done the sleeping stuff etc  Now that is all done I will do that soon.

Thanks
