I think that polyester flysheets are coated, and so shouldn't need weathering. It is always a good idea to pitch and check a new tent over though, wouldn't you say?
The idea behind weathering cotton canvas is so that the threads can swell and so is essential to initial waterproofing, but I can't work out why you would need to do this on a synthetic, coated fabric.
If anyone else knows different, do comment.
