hi just a quick question i have got a new tent and i have been told that i have got to weather it before going away in it so.

1. how is the best way to weather it

2. have i got to at all as it is brand new and never been outside as yet.

any advice would be grand ..

It is worth making sure that the canvas is correctly positioned before weathering - particuarly the corners - as the canvas will shrink to fit the frame.

Only cotton canvas tents need weathering, not synthetic ones. Which type is yours?

mine is a polyester flysheet so i dont know if i have got to weather it or not but i might put it up the spray a fine shower  on to it so i know it dont leak and i can put it up properly but my garden ist big enought so will have to ask the parents so ican use there garden

I think that polyester flysheets are coated, and so shouldn't need weathering. It is always  a good idea to pitch and check a new tent over though, wouldn't you say?

The idea behind weathering cotton canvas is so that the threads can swell and so is essential to initial waterproofing, but I can't work out why you would need to do this on a synthetic, coated fabric.

If anyone else knows different, do comment.

 thanks for all replys will keep an eye out for more but i think ill be waiting for the wind to die down a lot first as i dont facy chasing the tent 2-3 miles up the road  as ive seen this happen while i was in a static van but hopefully me the g/f and the kids will love it just as i did camping out in my grandparents back garden ps love the site loads off good info and friendly people .. :)
