I do see many folk coming on here and saying that as their tent is marked "Flame Resistant" then presumably it`s safe to cook in it? When what the manufacturers mean is that it will take two minutes to catch fire fully rather than the one minute it takes an untreated tent. (Times may not be quite accurate.......!)

But of course you`re right, if a tent manufacturer said this clearly, people would go off in droves and buy the other tents that were still marked as fire resistant. It`s a bit like that thing where Vango started putting a limit on their guarantee as to how high a windspeed their tents were designed to withstand. Do you remember the discussions? Many folk seemed to think that because Outwell, Coleman etc were not putting such a limit on their tents then they must be superior at surviving strong winds, which I greatly doubt. Is this still on the Vango website?

decathlon mark the materials as:

2000mm PU-coated polyester flysheet, breathable polyester inner tent, 2000mm polyethylene groundsheet.

eeeek. i hope i haven't bought a stupid tent. =(

It`s not safe to cook in synthetic tents. They are highly flammable. (It`s not even 100% safe to cook in your own house kitchen, remember!!!) But many people do, of course. It`s up to you to decide whether you want to take the risk. You can minimise risk by keeping all kids and animals out the tent while cooking, using a very stable table or camp kitchen, keeping the cooker well away from the walls of the tent, never leaving cooking unattended for even five seconds and keeping a fire blanket/extingusher/bucket of water handy. But even then, it`s not "safe".

And the Quechua you mention will be no different in this respect than any other synthetic tent, so no, it`s not a stupid tent. It`s just a typical one.
