I have been looking at the Coleman Raid Shelter simply for weight purposes but have had some mediocre feedback.

Does anyone have any views on the Epsilon 2. Again it is fairly lightweight and has a flysheet with room for rucksack. Also they can be picked up relatively cheaply.

Any thoughts please

Thanks

Hi Stu,

Was looking at this myself last year for backpacking etc but decided on the Coleman Quartz 3.

Looked at the Quartz 2 but it was a little small for my fat friend (not the wife!!!!) and me and also liked the larger porch area where I can unzip the groundsheet so as we can cook inside in bad weather.

The Quartz 3 is a bit heavier at 3.9kg but I really don't notice it on the back of my rucksack.

Got a price match of just over £100 last year at BTC in Fleetwood (may be able to get it even cheaper now so best search around), there's a Video Clip HERE if you're interested, if not, it's still food for thought.

Cheers

Hi

Coleman are not running the Epsilon 2 this year it is being replaced with the new Coleman Avior X2,. Which is very similar to the Epsilon 2. Coleman are also running a new Avior X1 which is the same but for 1 person with a wight of £1.95Kg .

Check out

www.yeomansoutdoors.co.uk when the web site will be up dated soon and the Avior2 will be on.

If you would like to see the tent up have a look at the camping exhibitions we run.

M y son and i used a coleman epsilon 2 when backpacking round i.o.w last year...i have also used it on my own but found it too heavy for backpacking..its a good sturdy tent with a good sized porch and plenty of height.its easy to pitch.overall  i have have been pleased with this tent.(it can be split between two people which will split the weight when walking.) good luck.

I've been looking for a one man lightweight tent for some time now and have to say that both the Coleman Raid and Epsilon 2 have been on and subsequently crossed off the list: the Raid because of potential condensation problems (it's only single skin) and the Epsilon because of the weight.

At present the front runners are the Vango spirit 100 (although I believe that Vango have new models for 2007), Robens Dream and now the new Coleman Avior X1. They all have double skins and are remarkably lightweight. Anyone have experience of these?

I do have the Coleman Adrenaline 2 which is a superb tourer, but a little heavy for hiking.

Rob
