Have just bought our new tent having begun camping last year and loving it. Just wondering about buying an electric lead - have read advice on which leads to buy but now wondering do most camp sites have hook up points? Are they expensive to use? Can't find this advertised on campsites I've looked at - doea that probably mean thay don't have hook ups? Totally new to this so any advice gratefully received. Thank you
PS - Is it worth joing the camping and caravanning club???
Also any recommendations for campsites in the north of england?
I think most campsites offer electric hook ups, look at the various camping websites and they usually give a price for a basic pitch, then a price for the electric hook up pitch. Some websites have a price which includes electric hook up you will have to look to see what the price includes. If you book late you may not get a hook up at the most popular sites, We have just booked for Newquay the first week of the summer holidays and there was only one pitch with hook up left.
If you put in a search for camp sites om UKCS you can go to advanced search and specify you want ones with hook-ups. The cost varies from being included with the pitch fees to around £2 or £3 a night. This includes all the electricity you use. As you pay for leccy by the night and gas by the bottle, try to think of ways to maximise your leccy use and minimise the gas. Kettles, toasters, cool boxes, fridges etc can all run off mains so make use of it. But beware overloading. See the pinned thread at the top of the Equipment Forum for more info.
Havent been to any near the lake district, but we are staying in a caravan with my parents (they don't do camping no matter how good I tell them it is) near the Lake District, Lakeland, Haven Holidays, I hope its good!!
We have camped at Wyreside fisheries near Garstang, Preston, thats as far north as we have been yet. Its great if you are in a group, or you like fishing, but prices are a bit steep, there are hardly any facilities, 3 showers and two toilets for males and females, but they were making some improvements last time we were there, building a new shower block and shop.
All you need to do realy , is go to campsite search at the top of this page and you will find loads of great sites. A lot depends on what you are looking for?
Do you want a club on site or not , ? quite often a club can mean quite a lot of noise at one in the morning or later .
On electrics i dont mean to sound patronising , but campsites will call it E.H.U for electric hook up. Or in some cases a serviced pitch.
