Thanks so much for your warm welcomes! I stumbled upon UKCS when I started researching tents and heeded your warnings of ebay-only tents, hence why I knew the Vango was a good deal.
My camping experiences started when I was 6 months old - a VERY long time ago - We spent all of our childhood school holidays at Nunnington Farm at West Wittering, West Sussex, back in the days of chemical toilets in tin toilet blocks, emptied by the pooh-lorry! My mum worked in a school and so had all the school holidays off. Dad used to take us down and set everything up at the start of the holidays and mum & us would stay for the whole 6 weeks of summer with Dad going home to work during the week and back down to us at weekends. My parents started a trend and soon there were lots of other mums & kids staying whilst Dads went back to work. We had a huge tent for the 5 of us, a caravan gas oven & a proper sized fridge! We were ready for anything! Mum & Dad were great pals of the owners and as I reached teenage years & mum's job changed, I spent my holidays staying & working there throughout the summer, emptying the bins, cleaning the modern toilet block (twice a day during peak season) & selling gas & sweets in the on-site shop. Oh what memories!!
Am so looking forward to 'meeting' you all and hearing all your hints and tips - on camping in general as well as sites.
One thing someone might be able to help on - in Oz my brother had a fab table, aluminum slatted top which came away from the legs and folded fan-style, the legs folded away too and all fit together in a bag not much bigger than one of the slats. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and any ideas who stocks them here in the UK please?
thanks again - I think it'll be a very late night - I'm hooked!!

Do you mean something like this? There are lots of different styles, sizes and makes for sale, try doing a google search, using 'slatted aluminium table' and it is sure to bring up lots to choose from.

Welcome Mrs K - I hope you enjoy the UKCS site as much as I do.
We started camping last summer and went to Nunnington Farm a couple of times. You wouldn't recognise it from your earlier description but it is still a great place to stay, especially for kids.
Anyone on here will tell you, once you get the camping bug you can't get rid of it. But you can make a lot of very good friends.
------------- Fiona
