Have used open weave groundsheet in our tent living areas for many years and have found them to be excellent. They are soft underfoot and any spills (which always seem to happen) drain away into the ground below, as does most dust and dirt that is brought into the tent. Yes you do get bugs in the living area, but it is a tent and most bedrooms are sealed anyway, the only time you will need a normal groundsheet is if are pitching on very wet ground when there is a chance of water/mud coming through.
