Well, one just has to colour co-ordinate, doesn't one!

nibbo, do you find you always have to ensure the front doorway on your Norfolk Lake is closed, at first sight of rain, so that water doesn't come into the tent?

We considered a Norfolk, then went for the Bear Lake because of the straight front and zip-off canopy, but would have quite liked the additonal bedroom inner.

Just wondering if we made the right decision.....

(But, we are NOT having this 'Red Sea'; we already have a Cabanon utility tent, and that weighs a ton (but is fab, to be fair). If we do go for another untility - for weekend use - we'd go for the Outdoor Revolution Outhouse (I think) because of the very small pack size and weight. And, hey, it's grey; it'll go with anything!).

Yes it's a flippin pain in the rear end when it rains. We never thought of it when we bought it. Was hoping they might bring out a canopy or something for it. Wouldn't swap the tent for the world though..absolutely love it. Just need that matching day tent...and windbreak..and chairs..and that new outwell heater!

A friendly warning from a retailer, try and actally look at a Red Sea erected first. The one I saw at the trade show had filled with water in the roof. !!

I have a Norfolk lake and the sloping door in the rain is the only niggle I have with this fantastic tent.  I have just bought the side canopy and it may fit on the front, as someone on these boards has done that.  This solves the door problem.  I am going to try it out and pitch it in April.  If it doesn't fit on the front, we are going to put it on the side and use that door in bad weather.  It is grey so matches ok.

Thanks for the advice David. Looking at it now, the flat roof could well be a problem. it would be a perfect match for my Norfolk Lake though

Spideygirl:
Please let me know how you get on with the canopy.

Hi Nick,

If you're looking for a secondary tent to Cook, Eat and Relax in when its chucking it down. Or just to free up space in your Norfolk Lake, then do what we've done.

We bought an Outwell Oklahoma Day Tent last year.

It's bigger than the utility/cooking tents and therefore has more versatility. We got one to match the colour of our SV8, but I believe Outwell do them in the Green so should match up to your Norfolk Lake. I think you'll find a few recent threads on this subject if you decide to investigate further.

Hope this helps,

Pete.

Thanks Gunnar....I've seen the Oklahoma day tents and they are indeed very nice. However, the Red Sea is a bit smaller which is a big plus when the Norfolk Lake we have is so big (fitting it all on the pitch) and it's polycotton so it matches our tent perfectly...a bit snobbish i suppose but these things can get very addictive when you have to co-ordinate everything. There are others on here who are worse than me!!

Just noticed gunnar that you said you have the SV8 which is basically the same tent as the Norfolk lake. Did you have any problems fitting it all onto pitches?

Hi Nick,

Other than having to pay an extra couple a quid night...not had any problems..being over 7m long we already tend to pay a premium.

Although we've got fairly big tents they are of a uniform shape, so don't tend to spread out like the large dome tents (eg. nebraskas, diablos etc etc).

I believe (and peeps on here will correct me if I'm wrong) that campsites are more forgiving towards large tunnel tents compared to domes. I've probably started something by saying that, but there you go.

Only thing you might find is that campsites with regulated pitches may site you on a large touring pitch. Well it'll give you room to spread out...hehe.

Cheers,

Pete.

I have been told the same.  The sites I have contacted said they had no problem with my tent and they prefered tunnel tents to the pod stlye.  We have booked into a site in Wales that has 11 metre wide pitches, but you can go out as far as you like.  This means that I will not only fit my Norfolk on the pitch, but also my Kyham day tent. No Nibbo it does match, but it is grey so will highlight the grey bits on my tent. :-)  I couldn't have gone for a totally different colour and I was pleased that it sort of went.  Would have loved to be able to get the Outwell day tent in polycotton, but they don't make it.   My Kyham was a bargain at £45. (returned order stock).

Spideygirl and Gunnar

That's what I've been told about the tunnel tents too regarding size. I had all sorts of problems with my Nebraska xxl trying to find sites that would accomadate it,(maybe i just picked the wrong sites and was unlucky) but with the Norfolk Lake I've had no problems at all with it's length and width.
I might invest in the canopy..even if it does make the tent even longer!!

Hi Nick

We also have a SV8 and have never had problems fitting it onto a pitch in the UK but have had big problems in France.  Pitches on the continent tend to be a lot smaller than the UK so if you ever decide to go abroad, you need to check out the pitch sizes carefully before you go.  Quite often sites in France say things like 'average pitch size 100m2' which soulds great until you get there and discover that the average size may well be 100m2 but there are only a very small number of large pitches and the rest are all 60m2.

You also need to check for position of any trees on the pitch, especially in France, where we have often been able to secure a reasonable sized pitch but then found there is a blooming great tree (or two!) in the middle!

We now find it easier to take smaller tents, dayroom and kitchen tent to France, then we can just use whatever will easily fit on the pitch and not worry about siting one big unit.
