I would never camp at this time of year without EHU(electric hookup) & a fan heater

have just been camping for the first time at easter (normally do summer only) spent the days at the beach in swim wear and the first night shivering and shaking in coats, hats and gloves!! went and bought a gas canister heater....bliss!! we have EHU but werent on it on this break. the heater was essential. have been to primark yesterday and stocked up on kids/adults fleecy pyjamas for £2 and £3 and fleecy socks for bedtime (3 pairs for £!) for the kids, then you don't run out of clothes to compensate for the cold. we also took duvets and sleeping bags. the canisters last 3 hours on full power, we'd use 2hours at night and an hour in the morning when getting up. we were lucky and had glorious weather last weekend!!

Will not be camping in the tent next easter as its March 23rd!
I found it to be really cold in the night (to be honest the days weren't that warm either considering the rest of the counrty seemed to be having a heat wave). I wore a vest top, a t shirt and thisk fleecy jama's in the night time.
My three boys also had three layers on, t.shirt, pj's and a fleece hoodie plus socks of course!
We stupidly had no heater and on the second night we all sat round the cooker with the toasting rack on it which gave off a surprising amount of heat, but then made the condensation thick on the tent in the morning!
Bring on summer camping is what I say!

Lindsay

Snap LOL we've already decided to give Easter a miss next yr, esp as our kids school holidays are two weeks later!!!! meaning we could only go for the actual weekend :(

I was also cold in night too, but it was mainly my feet, so i brought thermal socks which helped. all four kids were fine but they have decent bags, We don't cos we'd spent all our money on their bags. Also ahd no heater, and we was lucky during the day, was t shirt weather. Think that was also what made the nights seem colder.

I also agree bring on summer camping!!!!

The thing I noticed most on my Easter holiday trip here in the North of Scotland was the temperature dropped very low during the night after fantastic days! Hard frost on my tent most mornings!

Assuming you're not doing the EHU thingy and are travelling fairly lightweight sleeping bags need to be good quality.( Don't skimp on this item!)

Days weren't a problem. Fleeces were good!

Spent 2 nights camping this Easter and for the first time ever was FROZEN at night. My mistake was was not putting an extra layer under and over our air bed (Coleman!). I have a 4 season bag XL and the second night my it contained me, my 9 year old and his teddy! Very uncomfortable, My sister and her husband slept on an air bed with duvet under and over her and was like toast all night! I will definitely be taking our duvet next time. We had camp fires at night and did all the usual things such as PJ's under our clothes early on but it was a nightmare. I have arthritis and had a nasty flare up and had to leave one night earlier than planned. Still I'm looking forward to my next trip in early May! My sister's tent is smaller than me so I wondered if a larger sleeping compartment was why I was so cold. With camping I have learnt something on every trip. Best tip so far was freezing small bottles of water instead of ice packs.

one bit of advice, if you have EHU great but dont rely on it if the site's supply trips during the night you could end up in the brown stuff. always ensure you have plenty of blankets etc and a good 3-4 season sleeping bag is a must
