We are planning on going camping this weekend for the first time this year and I have been planning it for age so I am determined to still go despite the weather. I was planning to stay on the Great Langdale nt site and was wondering if anybody had stayed there before and if so how sheltered this site was from wind? Or if anybody could recomend an alternative site that is particularly sheltered? or any other tips for that mater!

I can cope with the cold, rain, frost and snow etc but I find wind very scary at 2am when there is just me, my son and 2 little terriers and my tent is swaying violently in every direction!

I would say go for it, great langdale is pretty sheltered with plenty of trees around you and has good facilities- nowhere can be worse than where we stayed this weekend just gone- wild camping ( with permission from farmer ) facing a valley in a very exposed place. - still haven't finished cleaning the mud off everything! The winds got up to 75mph! But we survived I still cant wait till we go away again, except next time we will go to a proper site with a few more home comforts and level ground!. Good Luck xx

Yeah, Great Langdale would be alright, even a drying room if your gear gets soaked but don't be daft like we were the first time we went... there's a sign for a site in a place called 'Chapel Stile'... it's not NT and is definetely not sheltered... keep going right to the end of the road until you see the sign for the NT site...

If the weather is too bad the local pub is excellent...
