Hmm 5x5 sounds very tight - we wouldn't fit on even without a gap.

I actually had tocall the site and check it wasn't a misprint!!!! but when i spoke about it on campsites forum, others had heard of it.

Thanks, so all I have to do is turn the tent and create a side entrance....

Still think it is false advertising...

You're missing the point I think.

You could turn it sideways and if you had a side entrance use that - you'd then face straight at your neighbours and traditionally campers try to avoide that out of courtesy.

5x5 is just ridiculous. Maybe instead of a thread about which campsites take large tents we should have a thread about which sites have ridiculously small pitches and should be avoided! In our experience they seldom let you know when booking. On several occasions we have been grateful that we have taken our small tent as we discovered our big tent wouldn't have fitted on our pitch!

BTW - don't you only have to leave a 1.5 metre gap to each side as if your neighbour leaves a similar gap then that will add up to the 3 metre fire break?

The firebreak thing is suppposed to be a legal requirement under fire regulations (according to  the c&cc) so even if it is 1.5 metres either side that would still only leave you 2m on a 5m pitch.  If it's 3m then you couldn't pitch a tent at all!

Maybe someone should start a new range of long thin "Galley" tents just for miserly sites!

We have a secluded area where the pitches are marked out, and large enough for anything that we have had, and a field that is unmarked, and is mainatined to the same standards but has open views.  Both have electric hook ups.  As long as it is not August Bank Holiday you can put up a marque if you like !  Check us out on this site under -  Ivy House Farm  -  (Boston)

When I booked for the North East Easter meet I was told that I would have to pitch my tent sideways (it's 5.9 x 6.8).  I'll just have to check the "lie of the land" when I get there.

Our tent is 7.4metres long so it's a push even on 10m2 pitches!
