Don't take valuables if you can, sleep with your wallet/purse/mobile phone/car keys next to you on the side of the tent away from the interior door, have a torch to hand too. Don't worry about general camping items such as cookers, they aren't worth much on ebay so not likely to be pinched!

Watch the beer supply though, I have known kids to go into tents to nick booze while their parents aren't noticing.

We  lock anything of value in the car and sleep with mobile, car keys, wallet in bed pod. on the whole genuine campers are good honest folk.

Large commercial sites might be different - my son had his waterproof jacket stolen from a childrens gamesroom last year, should have known something wasn't quite right when the member of staff working the area actually locked herself into a glass booth!  Shame really as the site was meant to be first class, it had just become too commercial and large, needless to say we will not be going there again.

On the whole the only raiders I have ever witnessed were a gang of new forest ponies doing a proper job on someones breakfast cereals which had been left in a porch area. so look out if your planning on a new forest trip.

ditto all above - make sure its out of sight! I guess that most campers vehicles are already full to busting with their own stuff - without taking some elses!

Our few valuable bits and pieces are always locked in our car, hidden in the dog cage under the bedding with the dog on top!

One large Rhodesian Ridgeback kept everyone away from our tent very well last summer.

We've got two now ...... we might be able to get the whole place to ourselves.....
