Just joined this club after meeting someone from UKCS recently who recommended it to me, in case anyone is interested.

I tried to search on UKCS to see if this club has been mentioned and could not find anything, and am kind of surprised.

Hoping to join in a couple of meets near me later this year.

It is a proper club with officers, constitutions and rules etc., so it may not suit everyone.

Not sure if it is for me yet, based on my limited experience with group camping events.

However, it costs 12.00 GBP a year this year, and thought I should give it a go.

They have an active FB group page (interesting read), a newsletter 8 times a year, and also lots of meets planned well in advance which suits me well.

Booked my C&CC sites for October in Devizes (partial stay for just 2 nights out of 7 nights as I have already booked to go elsewhere), and for 3 nights in November at Salisbury, both local to me.

See how it goes.

Due to emergency leave of absence from the UK at the beginning of October 2024, I missed the event in October, and by the time I tried to book for their November 2024 meet at Salisbury C&CC at the beginning of November, it was fully booked!

Still have not been to one of their events.

However, I am not getting a good vibe with this club to date via different sources.

Therefore, I am unlikely to renew my membership.

I prefer to camp alone and do things as and when I pleases without having to consult and be approved by others, etc. etc...

I did take a casual look at those sorts of clubs, mostly to see if it would give me more reason to get my idle bum into gear and tour more, or visit places of interest, but somehow didn't really sell themselves to me as people I wanted to spend time with! Not casting aspersions on them in any way, just didn't seem to be 'my kind of people'!

Personally not overly keen on 'clubs' in general, often too 'cliquee', and inevitably someone on the managing committee turns into some kind of megalomaniac when empowered with some petty role that goes to their head! Seen a Chairman of a car club go into a full blown "I'll scream and scream until I'm sick" hissy fit because he wasn't getting his own way! - He didn't, but he did lose everyone's respect and get himself booted out of post, as NOT the behaviour fitting of a competent Chairman! Also, I always seem to come under significant pressure to 'join the management' as seen as reasonable, competent, able etc. 'just the sort of chap we need at the helm'! - No thanks, I retired from all that when I drew my pension, my ego does not need massaging with petty power, I'm only here to indulge in ordinary member type involvement!

Shouldn't really be damning them outright from a point of relative ignorance, they clearly hold appeal for many, but not me.

I suppose if you belong to either (or both) of the big camping/caravanning clubs, you could take advantage of the reginal group events, they seem to be similar to NCCC or other solo groups in their activities, other than perhaps it may be couples and families attending rather than all solos, but you'd have company if that's what anyone seeks. Have to say, not attended one of those get togethers either! - Maybe I'm just anti-social! - probably not, far too many friends, and indulge in many group activities, but with people of my specific choosing, but then I'm happy with my own company, well, my dog's company.

The NCCC is a club with constitutions, rules and guidances, and a committee that is elected every year, etc. etc...

It came across as rather officious to me, even before I attended any of the club's meetings/events.

In addition, there were some rumblings recently with mud being slung, which did not gel well for me personally.

I don't need any additional hassles and b!tchiness in my life, thanks!
