Hi there, I have a Transporter Autosleeper High top-1985-1600diesel and I get good mpg (or is it mpl now).  She is not very fast and doesn't like hills but that doesn't bother me at all we get there just the same and I have had some good weekends and just had a week at Great Dorset Steam Fair where I see quite a few on here go too. I have had the van just over a year but I got someone to look at it before I bought

Hi Mark and Kath, thanks for the advice. I have also put a post on the camper van forum and been given a lot of good advice, head is spinning a bit!!!

I have a feeling the T2 wont be big enough for the dogs (need somewhere when we are travelling), plus from what others say they are money pits. So I am being swayed towards the T25's, however, looking at both (and hopefully a little citreon thingy too) this weekend.

Kath - what sort of MPG do you get? and can you get your hightop in the garage or is it too tall?

Mark - I take it your old lady is still not running right yet?

Thanks

B

edited to say Sorry forgot to say Kath welcome to the forum, you will get hooked on it!!!

Breeze Hi,thanks for the welcome- the height of the high top is 8ft 3in can't remember what metric is but it can be a bit of a nuisance as the car parks with limited head room are much too low. I haven't got a garage. When travelling you can leave the bed down for the dogs and there is plenty of floor space, if the dogs are small they can lay on the rear shelf.  The milometer does not work but I reckon I get about 35mpg on motorways etc, not so good hills and dales, but nice to drive.  You could get a pop top-less parking probs and same facilities

Good hunting this weekend,

Kath

Hi Kath, well I couldn't even get the T2 into first gear!!!! I think it was probably that particular T2 as the seat didnt move forward. I had to pull myself up on the steering wheel before I could depress the clutch enough, and even then I stuggled to push the lever into first (joy of short arms!!!). I did check out and drive the T25 which would have just gone in the garage. I was in good nick for its age and drove quite well, plus there was lots of room for the dogs. But having discussed it further with OH we decided with all the extra expense we couldnt really justify spending £4.5k. So back to tenting. Although we are going to Pickering next weekend to the caravan and motorhome show, just to have a look around. You never know if we win the lottery!!!! LOL.

Hi Breeze, shame about the T25, that does seem pricey,  I have seen them a lot cheaper but depends on a lot of things I suppose.  At least you liked it!!

Hi Kath, it was a bit pricey, which was one of the reasons I decided against it, but it was in quite good nick - the lady even proundly showed us the original plug for the sink!!!! I think a camper will have to be on my wanted list - something to aim for in the future.

Rigth back to the search for a tent, I know what I want, just cant get it at a price I like!!!

No not really, it was partly my fault (well mostly really!!!). I was just glad that they both came back when I called as it was pitch black so I wouldn't been able to find them otherwise. The dogs were my main concern - the tent was replaceable.

Gives me a good excuse to buy a new one, LOL. It's all a learning curve.

Do you have dogs/kids both/neither? It can be challenging going on my own with 2 dogs, but I try to meet up with a friend so they can keep an eye on the dogs when need be. It generally works out. Plus they tend to warm the tent slightly!!!

Hiya, my daughter is grown up now, and we lost her dad nearly two years ago, which is why I sold the caravan and bought the VW camper, just right for me and the dog.  We always had vintage vehicles and went to rallies most weekends with tent and/or caravan,  some years ago our dog dug her way out of the tent, fortunately she was found next day just curled up outside, but it was scary at the time, that's when we bought the caravan!! - for the dog really!

I know that feeling!! The dog escape was why I was considering a camper too, but she is getting older all the time and settling down more, so by next year she should be fine, plus I have a crate I could use if she continues to try to escape. The older one is much more laid back, he tends to take things in his stride, I was spoilt with him really.

I bought a tent with a SIG because she managed to get out under the tunnel tent!!! Dogs dont you just love them?
