Thanks Caz. Not sure I can drag him away from the telly! I'm quite new to camping, but enjoying it, he did it years ago and says he has "done his stint". My next question is: is there a meet somewhere "up north"? Thanks in advance. Breeze
Have a look at meets in the North East, also some in the Central area are over your way, just a bit further south, in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Hi, not been on a solo or one parent camping event before and would love to give it a go. The only thing that puts me off is my tent which is big enough for a week but takes time to put up. Any ideas for me and my 3 children??? (15,13,10...)?
I may have a go at these meets. Myother half isn't that keen and I havejust worked out that the next holidays I have tons of time with littlie with hubby at work.
I would love to bring my kids to a singles meet - I have done a reasonable amount of camping with them but I too have a stay at home hubbie and it would be nice to go camping where I don't feel like a leper!
I live in North Dorset so if there are any meets planned down South would love to hear about them.
I'm being a bit cheeky, but would anyone out there fancy organising a single/solo mini meet, sort of central/ north east region? I have never been to a meet, so don't really feel comfortable doing one. I did say I was being a bit cheeky!!!
I'm a single parent and would not mind organizing a meet. I am going to my first one this month as I have only just joined. Once I see what goes on I will try and get one sorted, maybe for next month.
It will be nice to be with people in the same position as I have to agree you do get some strange looks sometimes.
Hi all. I am a single camper with kids. My OH stays at home or works too as he's not keen on camping either.
I have been on a few meets and they are great.. everybody is friendly and nobody makes you feel uncomortable for camping alone.. in fact quite a most people are in awe & say "good on you!!"
you don't have to join in with all the games etc. if you don't want to.. usually it's a case of 'do what you like'..as it is your holiday after all.
It's nice when you can talk to like minded people & spend time among others rather than Hibernating in your own tent alone.
come on.. bite the bullet (as they say) join us on a meet we would love to see you!!!
Hi Lyn, thats brave of you to offer, you might want to wait until you have been to your first meet! Next month sounds like a good idea. I'm afraid I can't offer much help as I am new to all this, but will help at the meet, if that's any use to you?
I am really glad to see so many single campers who have OH's at home - I camp with my daughter as my OH cant see the point of sitting in a field when you have a perfectly good settee at home with sky sports on the TV.
When I say to friends/family that we are going away on our without him - they cant believe a woman would go camping on her own - "don't you feel a bit scared on your own" I am asked continuously - no way - campers are the friendliest bunch of people on the planet!!
I love to sit in a field - rain, sun or (in the case of one camping in 2006 - the tail end of a hurricane).
I think the idea of meeting up with a group of like minded people a brilliant idea!
Here, here? My OH wont come, but I don't want to say at home vegging in front of the telly, so I leave him with the cat for company and take the dogs with me. Much better, dogs love it, I enjoy the early morning walks and he can watch what ever he pleases, win win I'd say.
