Hi,

A large number of us are heading to Shell Island for the weekend of the 6th-8th June. We're all single parent families and the children's ages vary from 14 months through to 17 years old - some seasoned campers, some sleeping under canvas for the very very first time !

There are currently 54 of us going along in total and it's going to be a brilliant weekend. A few of us have met before, a large percentage of the group are new and out to make new friends.

I always think the "more the merrier" for these things, does anyone fancy coming along?

Hi Chrissie

I have not been camping for over 20 years and this time have 2 children in tow.  I'm also a single-parent and would love to take up the camping again for your Shell Island trip.  I had a slipped disk last year so was not brave enough to go solo.  Want to go to a group meeting where someone can help me if I forget something or am hopeless!

Can you post the details of the site so I can book?

Thanks

Dawn - lady-biggles

Hi Dawn,

If you email me at peepdip at yahoo.co.uk I'll mail you all the details of the trip and also a list of participants to date - not that you'll know them, but it is nice to see the names and ages of children going along.

There are loads of novice campers going along to this one so the fact you haven't camped for a while won't be an issue at all, there are plenty hands to help out !

Hi Chrissie

I sent an email last week - not sure if you received it or you are away over bank holiday and kids hols.  You can email me on dawnaconvey at yahoo.co.uk if that helps.  Still want to go! Looking to go to Haven for the following week camping so need to book pronto on both trips.  Thanks

Hope the meet goes well and you get better weather than they did there over the bank holiday weekend.

.......just in case you don't get my email, the details are as follows.

We're all heading to Shell Island on Friday, 6th June and staying until Sunday. As the island is tidal you won't be able to get on the campsite from about 9.30am-1pm on Friday, or after 9.45pm on Friday night (some people are joining us on Saturday for that reason).

You can pay at the gate and we'll leave full directions at reception as to where everyone is - just ask for Single With Kids. We'll also have a huge banner with the name on so hopefully that will be a big clue too !

I suspect we'll live off barbecues for the weekend, there's a good butcher nearby and also a supermarket no too far away. The group is made up of single parents from a number of forums - SingleWithKids, Gingerbread, this one and a few others and only a few actually know each other.

For more info visit the Shell Island unofficial website http://www.shellislandcampers.co.uk/  or

http://www.singlewithkids.co.uk/shell_island2.htm

It'd be lovely to see you there, I've emailed me my mobile number too,  you can text me and let me know your plans.

Chrissie x

Well it can't possibly be worse, bordercaz !  Though then again........

One of the party is bringing a huge "beer tent" - I think it's a 12 berther - that we'll leave the inners out and use as a party tent.

Where there's a will, there's a way !!

Hi Kazy,

It was fantastic thanks to some wonderful weather - we all went home tanned and refreshe! There were around 90 of us there in the end and the kids had an absolute ball - our pics are all here : http://www.kodakgallery.co.uk/I.jsp?c=4fmw1bxp.193kw0dmx&x=0&y=-6qbqnq

Our next trip is this weekend - Friday 11th to Sunday 13th and it's in the Lake District near UIlswater. I haven't counted up all the numbers yet but it looks like there's around 50 of us (including children). We've got the firepit ready, the ball games and of course a little vino.....

We're also meeting up at Wicksteed Park (Northants) for the last weekend in the school hols, I've never actually been there before but I'm told there's loads to do for the kids and as fair weather campers it's probably our last opportunity to get our tents out before the nights draw in.

Some of our group are going back to Shell Island in between times, I think it's the first weekend in August - let me know if you're keen, my email address is peepdip at yahoo.co.uk and I'll pass your details on.

Hi Chrissie - wow it looks like you all had a fantastic time at Shell Island. I cant make the Ullswater meet and my daughter is away at school anyway.

We have a small meet in York ( Naburn Lock ) organised for 18th and 19th July if you ar anybody else is interested. 3 places left I think and it would be nice to see a few more people there as so far its only me and my daughter doing the quiz ( I will still probably lose )

all the best

xoopsx

edited to add - 2 places left now
