Hi,

As a family we were keen campers, but I have recently found myself left as a single parent with a 4 year old daughter. I really want to continue camping with her and wondered if there were any other single parents in or around the Lincoln area that could suggest a good site to go to or just some advice in general.

I have to say I am quite nervous at the thought of taking her on my own.

Many thanks
Alison

Hi Alison, I don't have kids but I wouldn't hesitate to camp on my own as campers are usually friendly. I've been single for about a year but I found the solo and one parent campers group (Nutters) we are mainly based around the north west (Gr Manchester) but some travel from further afield.. you would be most welcome to join us on any meets if they aren't too far for you x

Hi Alison, I just wanted to wish you all the best and completely understand where you're coming from as i'm also recently in the same boat. I'm also nervous about taking them (8 & 4 girls) alone. I did go last year with them alone, as in us in one tent (pitching the outwell montana lake would be a challenge on my own anyhow), but was on a site with other family members so was easy. It's when you need to pop the loo etc. - it's these simple things that worry me.

I'd be interested in any group meets for single parents over the coming months as it would be useful to have someone around just to keep an eye out for you. (Note, I know in general campers are a freindly bunch and would look out anyhow, but it'd be nice to spend some time with some like minded people in the boat also).

Hi Alison

I solo camp with my two children aged 3 and 6 as my hubby doesn't like camping. I've done lots of camps now and I've not encountered any major problems. I usually give the kids a small job to do when setting up, such as handing me tent pegs or fetching blankets and pillows from the car. I also get them to pack a small rucksack each the night before we go with a few toys to get them involved. One of the best things that I bought was a Kampa Khazi which ensures we don't have any middle of the night treks to the toilet block. I also make sure that I take a packed lunch with us for arrival day so I can sit them down with a picnic whilst I'm finishing off setting up.

Sorry I can't help with advice on sites around the Lincoln area as I haven't really camped around there.

Hth
