Hi to all Nutters - Happy New Year to you all! I'm well confused about who I can camp with now this year having enjoyed your company last Oct at Lady Heyes. I thought the Hardhurst Farm meet was going to be in March but now it says Feb?? I'm already camping next week with Scouts so will have to miss it. Hope to see you (all?) soon sometime this year. I'm doing really well now having lost weight and got rid o the stick!

Hi Bridget, To summarise this thread, the group was getting too big with more people joining each week. Unfortunately that started to have an effect of why the original members (of which I'm not one) set the group up. It also effects the type of sites you can visit as a lot of sites do not like groups (particular large ones) and/or can not cater for that number of units/people.
Hence the reason for this thread and the founder members and early attendees breaking off to try and remain true to their ethos. This being said, some of that group have been to hardhurst in February.
There is also several other threads for meets started by other single/solo campers that encourage new members and all and sundry to join them, some of which did attend "nutters" meets.
This allows for all to carry on attending meets to suit their own needs/enjoyment.
Hope that sort of clears it up!

hi all. I may not be a member of your wonderful group. but I do read a lot of posts on here. may I make a suggestion that may solve this problem. break the group into 3 sections.
1..solo campers only .....2 solo and sometimes a partner joining.   3 solo with children at times. this may help. if not. well I tried. I am solo sometimes. but I do have a wife who may come with me .

I think it is now a closed group, going by the content of the post and happy with their status quo. The dynamics of the group had changed over time and it seems to have caused problems. I think the issue has now been naturally resolved Within the group. It is still a solo/single family with occasional Tag a long partner.

Thanks for your suggestions superpup but it's all been sorted now, with the original members going back to how the group was when it first started.

I have been watching this thread with a little interest although I am not a member of the group. Now that it is all finalised perhaps I can have my tuppence worth without fear or favour.

I have been to one or two meets over the years, even arranged a couple myself rather unsuccessfully, and it seems to me that what has happened with this group tends to happen eventually with all of them.

Basically what happens is that the original founders of the group get together on their first few meets and become close pals...a word which people don't like but it is true...a clique. They consciously or subconsciously form a close knit group with interests and etiquette which they all follow.

From then on, new members trying to join often find it difficult to be accepted into this clique because they don't know the rules and may have different views. Some may succeed but others get left on the outside. If that doesn't put them off and they continue to attend meets they may start to form their own cliques and then there is already a split group following different sets of rules or interests...and so it goes on.

In a nutshell once a group becomes larger than it's original members it is self destructing and they eventually split and go their separate ways. This may not be a bad thing as there are then more meets and more choice and the groupings continue to expand and separate.

This actually is normal behaviour and happens in all groups of the animal kingdom from a pride of lions to a family of apes.

One last comment re single/solo groups is that once families and friends are invited it is no longer a singles/solo group but a family group and in most cases those whose original intentions was to form a single/solo group start to become disappointed with the progress and look to returning to their roots, which seems to have happened here.

Well, that's my 10 pence worth anyway
