Hi all, hope I'm in right section. If a caravan alarm only seems to work when hooked to car or EHU. Would you say it's the battery or something more sinister....thx in anticipation
You haven't told us what caravan or what alarm is fitted but if it is an alarm fitted by the manufacturer then they are powered by a battery. The alarm battery is, in turn, charged by the caravan battery.
So, when did you last change the alarm battery? They normally only last about 4 years.
Similarly, is your caravan battery fully charged? It should be reading somewhere around 13 volts. Anything at 12volt or less indicates it needs recharging or has terminally failed.

Hi Dave caravan 2017 lunar cosmos alarm stringer 310. I didn't realise you can charge alarm battery. When I rang stringer about getting a new battery they said I needed to detach the whole alarm and send to them....a little extreme I thought? How do I charge the battery?
Do you mean it's a Sargent Stinger AS310 caravan alarm?
The STINGER 310 system unit uses a special 4.8-volt Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack that supplies backup battery power to the system should the supply from the leisure battery fail or be disconnected.
It charges itself from the caravan battery.
Can you possibly enter your outfit & location details in your profile as this will help others.

------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I may be wrong but I think the battery in the alarm is charged from the internal wiring of the caravan.
We have a 2014 with a stingrr alarm. Ours is also playing up. It works but doesn't make the beeps to show it's working. Can tell that it's working as the outside overdoor light comes on when it's set and I can hear it make a faint electrical click coming from the alarm box inside the caravan. We've cintacted the company who were very helpful and forwarded instructions on how to pair the box with the fob but this made no difference. Battery is the original but has been tested and is fine. Very occasionally it works properly and makes the beeps. For over £200 plus postage for a repair we'll put up with it's idiosyncrasies.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.
The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
That sounds exactly what's happening to mine it clicks but doesn't always bleep . But my PIR light doesn't come on so I presume it's not working. Spoke to company today (+ read in another forum) that if battery no good the PIR light will be read, which its not so will presume not battery. I'm going to try and do a 'reset'. Like you they advise sending it back to them....so expensive though 🤔. Thx for sharing
It's helpful to know other people get clicks rather than beeps....I think I need to go and check it all again and take my time counting to be sure if I've turned it on 🤦♀️🤷♀️. Thx for your input
We have to listen very carefully for the clicks which must look a bit strange to others. We can also tell by the light over the door coming on. If it saves over £200 we'll put up with the strange looks.

Yes it's hard to hear the clicks so I never know how clicks I've done. Someone else mentioned light over coming on...is that automatic when you set alarm or do you turn that on separately?
It comes on automatically when you set the alarm and you can switch it off
by pressing the button on the fob with the symbol of a light. When we switch the alarm off the light comes on again and can also be switched off with the fob. When we realised this it made using the alarm quite simple.
