PURSUIT ROOF INTERNAL JOINT and CONDENSATION.

Whilst leaving our 550-4 for it's 2nd service I mentioned to the mechanic that I found a tiny amount of water on the shelf in a bedroom locker at the end of the internal roof trim, whilst fearing the worst (damp) he pulled the roof joint trim down finding water on the trim suggesting that it was condensation and Bailey will supply a 'Foam filler strip' . As I could see that it was very easy to fit and certainly not warranting a return trip to the workshop I decided I will be fitting it myself.
As far as I'm aware this is not a recall but I would like to point this out to other Pursuit owners, maybe other Bailey models too ?

Rubbish! That's not condensation, it is the outside roof join cover that is leaking. It would appear to be quite a common problem. On ours, it simply poured in the first time it rained after we removed the cover.

You need to get the dealer to remove the outside trim and completely reseal it under warranty.

Its lousy Bailey design, and even worse build quality.

Dry during use in hot weather, No water / condensation / rain since the cold spell with heating on high. Obviously will be keeping an eye on what's going on under the internal trim. We're using caravan tomorrow for a few days and inspect after today's heavy rain during a thunder storm.

No Water ingress despite today's and recent thunder downpours. So do I really need to return it to a dealer ?

So if not a leak condensation is the culprit if it only happened when it was cold.

As it is a join there could be a section without insulation which may allow condensation to form.

Personally with Baileys strict warranty conditions I would get them to do any work required no matter how small. If something major goes wrong you don't want to give them any excuse to reject the claim.

Its your caravan. Personally I'd keep a very very close eye on it.




Of course, I've used it with the interior Joint cover removed. Co-incidently I collected the foam insulation that Baileys recommend fitting (pushing) between the front & rear panels to stop warm air hitting the cold joint. (Although I'll be leaving this out for a while)

I'm lucky enough to be only 16 miles from the Caravan Hospital near Bridgend, who are not any manufacturer dealers but are Bailey Alutech specialist repairers where our Pursuit was serviced recently.

FreeAtlast, I can only imagine what you've experienced and hope that not too many (any) others experience the same.

Been away and survived the Torrential rain & thunder storms we had in Swanage which certainly tested the integrity of our Bailey 550-4 roof.

Does that internal roof trim just pull off? Maybe worth me looking to see if I have the foam and get them to fit some if not, rather than wait for condensation to wet the inside.

Hi Navver, Yes it's surprisingly easy to pull the trim down. No clips etc.. The guy who serviced our caravan removed it whilst I was there, I would of been apprehensive. The wall - ceiling cover pull away easy too, enabling inspection of the alu-tech frame joints & bolts.

The insulating foam is available on Bailey Parts website (11p metre I think) Ours is still under warranty, so no charge. Maybe free if you say that it should be fitted anyway , as a recall. I know others disagree but I've always found Bailey very helpful.

Hi I know it’s a long while after this but did the foam strip stop the condensation?

Or if anyone else has fitted the strip did it stop the condensation at all
