My advice would be to go to a plumbing retailer, explain that it's an LPG gas cooker and ask if there is any type of sealant available to seal the gasket from escaping gas.

Hi, the knob is touching the hob preventing it setting safety device is my guess. If you remove knob put a small ball of kitchen foil in the spindle hole in the knob to pack it out a bit you may find that sorts that problem. As for other fault as Tango says make sure all is clean and lined up correctly, also wriggle in to place. There is a product called calortite that is a tube of sealant for use with calor gas etc you would need to read spec on tube to see if suitable for heat of hotplate. Hi I repair domestic appliances I cant understand where you say the small flames are coming from, if it is below the burner crown I would say you have a leak which is igniting, if this is the case please get a professional to repair it. post a photo
