yes that what the missus say's - but i like a challenge, and if a Mercedes Sprinter Van can get up, i reckon its possible with a mover!!!

Thanks Freeatlast for putting up the Truma Spec.
Here is a bit more info

So like I said in my reply on the first post, a descent Motor Mover like a Truma or a Reich should do the job. It's just interesting to see the great lengths that some people are prepared to go to to avoid spending money.

We always reccomend to people that buy Motor Movers that they should really be using a 110 battery.

Without doubt Truma and Reich do make the best Movers, we only changed our first choice to Reich as the Truma suppliers got greedy. So if you want it to do a specific task you are better off spending the money on a qaulity product and not scrimping on some of the cheaper products on the market.

Make sure the mover has metal gearing rather than the nylon gears used by some movers or the gears will slip.  Ask whoever supplies the mover to gaurantee the performance up that slope for that distance or full refund.  Make sure you get a full 5 year gaurantee.  High price is not always a gaurantee of quality.

Although you dont mention the weight of the van it seems to me that you need something with a bit of umph, the standard truma is only rated at 1200kgs for a 1 in 4 as is the powrtouch 1 or powrcompact as it is now known, the most powerful single axle mover is without doubt the Purpleline enduro, it is rated up to 1800 kgs, whether it will push 1800kgs up a 1 in 4 though is another thing & i'll have to check that, the next 2 are the Truma S & the Powrtouch heavy duty model 3, these units are rated at 1500 kgs on a 1 in 4.

I do the Truma S at £975, the powrtouch md3 for £825 & the Enduro for £799, all fitted locally, all have alloy rollers, although the Truma has much thicker rollers so its footprint on the tyre is quite a bit more than the others, so it wont slip easily, all have cross actuation so you can park 1 side against a wall & still disengage it,

Its your money so its take your pick, i personally do like the Truma & as someone earlier wrote they dont go wrong much, well as one or 2 of you will know Truma had or has a control panel problem, in that some dont work when they are fitted, but the problem is picked up at fitting & replacement boxes fitted, the ones that work when you get them never seem to break down, so i can only surmise its a manufacturing problem & not a faulty part problem.

I also like the Powrtouch & its 5 yr guarantee is a real bonus, its a fair bit cheaper than the Truma, the Enduro is wisper quiet & its motors are bigger than the opposition, but i havent fitted enough to compare them, but there seems to be nothing but good said about them on this & other sites.

I dont like Reichs, i have bust up ones in my garage that have hit kerbs or rocks because they are so close to the ground, but there are many out there who love them.

Lastly you started off saying you thought the hill might be steeper than 1 in 4, now if it is & the mover wont go up it, then you've wasted your money, you could have 4 years storage for that price, so its to think about.

Keith

im not sure of the gradient, its just bloody steep!  its a compass rallye with a weight of around 1400kg.

i think i might go for a mk3 powertouch, i think as you say, it might not work, but if not at least it will make it easier on caravan sites etc.

if not i will just have to put it in storage

The rhyno mover has an 1800kg capacity and a 1 in 4 gradient capacity.  It also has lower gearing - 60 to 1 as opposed to the more common 50 to 1.

It might be an idea to get someone who has a mover fitted to bring their caravan there to try it out and see how feasible it is.  But as you say a mover can always be handy.

I have just been out, with a spirit level and protractor, and it is only 15% gradient, ie less than 1:6 so i reckon it should be ok.

I spoke to powertouch, and they reckon there mk3 model will operate for 1hr (battery dependant) and they reckon a 85ah battery would be better than a 110ah, for its ability to charge quicker!

so im going to go for it - fingers crossed

Tourangang

I was told at the caravan show by powrtouch that if for any reason after fitting I was not happy with it they would remove it and cancel order with refund of deposit.

So go for it and good luck..... the CC club also recommend a 85ah battery.

My mover was delivered today (Powrtouch ) and will be fitted on wednesday.
