Alright Dave, points taken. Bad news, like water ingress, is not always well received - ask Fred Goodwin (RBS) but then it was all his fault allegedly!
We can agree to differ on things - I have friends who think I am crazy going off to France in a caravan for 6 weeks on end, but I can afford two such trips every year while they have 10 days at a spa hotel. I know what I'd rather do.
You pays your money etc
No offence taken, I just wanted my say in the debate. That's what most of us are here for and to share experiences and be helpful.
Happy caravanning.

If you have gas and water at home - do you get that serviced every year? If you are worried about gas and can't smell it, check connections with a tub of soapy water and a paint brush. I've never had a leak in umpteen years caravanning.
**gas and water should be serviced every year, that is why tight fisted landlords need proof , do you use a paintbrush and soapy water to do your house . i wouldnt want to live next door, god no,
the gas test just doesnt looks for leaks , other things like damaged flues, ff/fsd faults, things a time served caravaner could become blind to look for
did you know that the last thing you would use to find leaks is soapy water , the gas pipe on a van is copper with brass connections , soap has salt in it , hmm salt and copper/brass not good!!
I bought a damp meter from B & Q and check everything regularly.
**Hmm you do it yourself , your choice , but i prefer my proctimeter , most diy testers miss things as i had a customer that found that out last week , a whole side and back of a van shame , but it was a coachman
It's not rocket science - just check everything is working before you set off.
**yes It's not rocket science but does your insurence allow you to do it your way ? i know of six underwriters that wont
