It's a country park - all long walks, fresh air and splendid views.

Mousy hopped away into the bushes and was out of sight in seconds!

I'm told that you need to release at least a mile away or they find their way back!!!!!

dont get caught doing it by the parks police.    its actually against the law to catch any rodent and release it.  once caught "mice Rat Squirrel etc" they have to be killed. not re introduced.  never bothered me though live and let live. unless there is a reason otherwise.

Don't hurt the little cuties! When we get wild rats we set up humane traps, a very large bucket with cheese in the bottom and a ramp going up but not out will work fine, then tip them out somewhere you don't plan to stay. x

Are you sure about that ? I don't think there is any legislation which states you  actually have to kill them, but I may well be wrong... ?

The rest of it wouldn't surprise me though, I was aware there was a lot of legislation to do with where you release.

I  think it's quite possible that a hedgehog would eat pellets. As for the birds they are actually very likely to, as are cats and other creatures... like perhaps even some inquisitive toddler...

To the OP (& everyone else who doesn't know !) any poison should be placed in a position where only the intended vermin is likely to be able to get to it.

If you really must try to poison mice then for god's sake please take more care - put it in for example a piece of drainpipe, or under a piece of slate propped on a couplke of pebbles at the corners to raise it about an inch - that way a mouse will get to it,  but you'll decrease the liklihood of poisoning birds and other creatures too.
