Hello,

First time poster. I love the site!!

I used the camper for the first time this past weekend and the toilet did not flush. The wife is not happy. :(

Not sure if it is a fuse or the pump or a sensor. This post was great for a pump replace. But I first want to check the fuse. Where would I find it? It should be on the unit right?

Hope I can get this fixed on my own. I hate to bring it in.

Vinmaker.

I have had 2 trips away and the toilet flush has been intermittent so I have decided to change the pump as I have already freed it off once. One of the problems is the top tank is full of black grime is this caused by the previous user not using flush fluid?

The Thetford kits come with very good instructions, but I have put this on here so folks can see what is involved and hopefully try it them selves rather than paying out for an easy job to be done.

So firstly drain the flush tank. Because I will be flushing it too I have filled the aqua roll and connected the pump and put the water heater on

Lift out the toilet roll holder

Its pretty grimy in there

Unscrew the clamp holding the pump in

Lift out the pump with its cable and hose

Snip off the pump and bare the wires

New pump kit

Crimp the wires together (brown to brown) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SLID THE PUMP CLAMP AND SHRINK WRAP DOWN THE CABLE FIRST

Heat the shrink wrap to seal the joint

That was easy wasnt it! Now the water will be nice and hot so using the sink mixer I filled the tank with WARM not hot water and have tipped in Fendox tank cleaner

I filled it right up and left it till the morning

Hopefully over night its done its magic, so drain it off it to a bucket

Once the tank is empty place the pump back in having connected the hose (push fit) and replace the holding screw.

The cable sits on a little clip above the water line.

Push the roll holder back in.

Well its not spotlessly clean but it is an awful lot better than it was, so I hope the pink stuff keeps it cleaner now and the pump lasts.

So why did I tip the fendox into a bucket? Firstly so I could see any debris it took out and there was a lot of big black bits. Secondly I placed my waste hog under the shower and tipped one bucket load down, then the same with the sink. This will stop any smells apparently. Thirdly it has now also cleaned out my waste hog! so I have given it a good shake and left to soak before rinsing down a drain.

I have just had the same problem with the black bits in the flush.. I have used the correct Thetford pink for about 6 years and had no trouble until I used the ELSAN  fluid that they said could be used in the holding tank and the flush..I have been plagued with these tiny black bits ever since.. I have today been trying to clean the inside of the tank out by taking out the toilet roll holder and putting a hose in too loosen up the black film that is all over the inside of the tank.I have then filled up the tank with the cassette tank cleaner as that was the only stuff I had to hand..I have flushed it through about three times and so far so good.  Does any one think that the Thetford pink or the Elsan is to blame? I would really appreciate other thoughts on this subject as I thought I was the only one that had this problem! Local caravan dealers had no answers..( Probably want to flog me a new 'van!)  ;PS.. About two yrs ago I had a seized pump that blew the fuse.. That is a lovely little job changing that little B**** ain't it !!!
