Hello, sorry for bringing back an old post but I need help, again! OH decided to paint the inside cupboards on the caravan with white gloss. Half way through and she decides she doesn't like it! Does anybody have any ideas as to how I can make it look any better? I think we're just going to have to continue and finish it off! Not the best start to our caravanning experience!
Oh dear! I would finish it off, then put a few pretty transfers on the painted bits it will make the world of difference to plain white.. Or finish it off and then paint again in a different colour.
Or you could cover it over in sticky backed fablon - make sure you buy enough of the same pattern at the same time, they change every year I found!
I'm in the process of doing my cupboard doors and carcasses, I've used Wickes melamine primer followed by Wickes professional undercoat (oil based) and then oil based gloss mixed to a colour I choose off a colour chart.
Although I dont think it's necessary I also gave the doors a light sanding to remove the shine from the melamine then filled any little dings and scratches before giving them a couple of coats of the special primer.
BTW the Wickes universal primer and Dulux kitchen & bathroom paint combination (two coats of each) on the internal walls still holding up well after a fews months of living in the van Monday to Friday. No signs of any wear or disclolouration. I would definately recommend this to anyone wanting to give their van a bit of a sprucing up.
Yes it's more work but definately worth it. The Wickes stuff I used dries really quick to so by the time you have finished a coat you can start the next staight away.
Hey all sorry this is a really old post but just got my first caravan and the walls are all marked etc, was hoping to paint them, just wondered how long the paint lasted before you had to do it again? Have you ever tried putting wallpaper in a caravan too? thanks :)
Try a rubber based emulsion paint will stand up to knocks well, usually used in industry like canteen walls kitchens etc comes in all colours.
I had a bathroom ceiling which kept flaking. two coats of rubber based flat emulsion one coat of Dulux Sheen never repainted in 5 years.
Used to paint galvanised panels years ago to stop galvanic action where paint just peeled off.also used to paint protective cornering in schools offices.
Call in at proper decorator centre, either one of the big nationals ie Dulux or Crown. Or a local independant you will get more advice on the correct paint to use, and which product to use under it.
Not sure where your based but the company i work for is based in Bromborough with depots through the north west.
Rather than using emulsion try an acrylic eggshell which is more hardwearing.
Sorry to bring up an old post but i am thinking of doing this myself. Ive bought an acrylic primer

Thats the link to it, hopefully its the right stuff, as far as im aware caravan walls are thin plywood coated in some sort of self adhesive film.
My main question really is in the bathroom area, bearing in mind my caravan is a 2000 so 20 years old, the self adhesive film has started to unbonded and has shrivelled/creased in places, now ive cut these pieces out, leaving the bare plywood exposed. Am i ok to paint directly over this and once painted and siliconed will it be protected from the elements of water from it being a wash room
Also in the bathroom area the corner unit and roof light panel has discoloured, turning a white colour. What are peoples experiences with this. Ive found a product on ebay called cara-clean that claim it turns uv stained plastics back to white, has anyone got any experience with this product?
