sorry I forgot about this, you say your 'turning to off' so you mean on the control switch? in which case I have not come across that before, nor can I understand a reason for it to make any difference other than the time lag.

So still struggling beyond the possible need for a remote room thermostat. Reason being the current room stat is in the control switch and can be keeping the heating switched off due to direct heat acting on it, that's the back of the switch as well as the front!, so where then is the control switch situated exactly?

You can only say things as you understand them, no need for sorry

So is that high up then? where heat rises and it's hottest!
That could explain why it's reached the temperature of '9' which is actually around 32C! not though why switching off makes a difference!

If its on a door its possible that in the past the control knob has fell out when the door has been shut, then put back in but in the wrong postion. the control knob turns a varable resistor, if you remove the dial and push something through to the back of the switch to turn this variable resistor clockwise as far as it will turn, this is position 9 (the hottest) then replace the knob with it set at position 9. Mine would turn from 9 then stop at about 5 with some springy resistance, this was the variable resistor stopping going any further anticlockwise and the thin plastic which turns it twisting, so position 5 on the dial was really one and 9 was 5.

It should be keyed rather than a hexagonal connection which can bo back in the wrong position
