Didn't think 6 yrs was particularly old for a caravan fridge, is it?
As I said earlier, It has never been used on gas, always on electric.I just thought having an option of gas would be back up if electric fails.
Might be better to save myŁ100 and just continue with EHU. I'll have a think about it.

If the fridge has never been used on gas then there is no reason for burner to be faulty. It is probably full of dirt & debris. It is possible your service place attempted to light it on gas & when it would not they disconnected the supply. This was actually the correct thing to do to cover themselves. A caravan service does not include repairing appliances only checking they work.

As pointed out. service people don't like getting involved in repairing faulty fridges because if it fails again then they will get the blame even if the fault is unrelated. They would rather quote you for a new fridge.

If you want to reconnect gas & then clean & blow burner out with airline as described earlier then probably you will get it working. If a fridge is used on gas then burner should be cleaned at least annually & also should be cleaned if fridge has not been used on gas for a long period.

On this point of debris, the back of the fridge is effectively open to atmosphere all the time. This leads to corrosion of the various steel components, and the black paint finish is just sprayed on to the bare metal surface.

Its worth a spray over these items with Ambersil 40 (which is similar in properties to WD40 which is not recommended by Swift). But not down the flue of course

May I Hijack the thread and ask:

What sort of job is it to replace the seals on the fridge?

We couldn't get ours to works on gas and I thought about cleaning it and trying again, however from what I could see just looking through the grill the seals appeared to be all over the place (top one was hanging down) After seeing that I just turned off the gas at the isolating tap and we've used it on EHU ever since.

I'm perfectly competent at cleaning burners etc. even making safe gas joints in pipes etc. but when it comes to the flue and waste gases it needs someone who is fully trained. Then if I die of CO2 poisoning I can sue someone else

New thread not needed it's the same subject. All that matters about the flue is that it is not rusted through & it is not blocked. If you are capable of doing the job then you can see that it's sealed ok.

All the info you need is in this thread. Remove grille, clean out behind fridge & clean burner as described. You won't get Co inside caravan from a fridge that is properly installed in caravan but if you don't clean out behind fridge & clean burner & flue as described it might catch fire when you light it.

This is a full size fridge and there's no flue (that I can see) but there is definitely what looks like a seal running around the sides and over the top, presumably to stop co2 getting back into the van, although it may just be packing to stop the fridge moving around or chafing against the side of the housing.

Co from an installed caravan fridge running on gas is not an issue provided flue is clean & in good condition. As pointed out. Remove outside vent, clean out debris using a vacuum cleaner. Clean burner with brush & meths & blow flue through with airline if you have one.
